I can't get any subcategory mod to work
 

I've spent the last hour digging thru the search on subcategory mods

I guess the first question to ask is this...are all of the subcategory mods that I find only going to work with x-cart's fancy cats mod?

I don't have that, and don't really want to spend any money. I am familiar with Phils flyout, and don't really want a flyout menu. I just want something that text displays one level of subcategories under each main category, nothing too special.

Are there any that are 4.1.x that work without fancy cats? I've tried like 6 now, and none have worked. Some just make my cats bold, and some just make that section blank.

Hi JasonRoy,

Do you mean the appearance of the actual category listing on the left side of your page whenever you click on a root category? For example, if I click on Drivetrain as a root category, there are Lockers, Performance Gear Oils, Ring & Pinion, etc. as subcategories which display on the main body of your page. Would you like these subcats to always be visible on the left side when the user clicks on Drivetrain?

For example:

Braking
Drivetrain
Lockers
Performance Gear Oils
Ring & Pinion
Steering Box Braces
Engine
Exterior
Interior

I can help with that, but if you'd like another design you might want to provide a little diagram for us to follow :)

No I want to list main categories and then all first level subcats on the left column on every page all the time.

I can do it manually but that kinda sucks for when I'm always adding new stuff and removing old

Yeah didn't really want to spend money.

When it came down to spending money versus manually coding it, decided to go ahead and punch it all in myself.

Overall I am pretty happy with it. I might continue to tweak on it a little.
