displaying the category

Most of our products have a master product, and lots of additional products. For instance: there is a certain CD called 'you shine' (which is the master product), for this cd people can also buy the songbook, the video, the dvd, etc. When I enter 'you shine' in the search field, the result
page will list all products called 'you shine'. Since most of these products will have the same thumbnail, and the same description, only the price will
be different in this list. Someone who's searching the cd won't see the difference between the cd, the dvd, the songbook. Customers will always have to click trough to see what kind of product it's about.
To let people see what type of product each item is, we would like to show the category next to the article in the result list. How can we do this?
I asked this question to the support team, they already told me that I should change the template
[x-cart root dir]/skin1/customer/main/products.tpl
Changing this template would mean that the category is also visualised when people are just browsing through the products (instead of using the search option), but that we don't mind.

Anyone got an idea? Please note that we have some knowledge of php, but we're not experts. The templates stuff is absolutely new to us. (by the way, does someone know a manual about how this template based thing works?)

Why not describe what the item is i.e. You Shine DVD, You Shine Songbook as the Product Name?

Seems a much simpler fix.
