Right click protection of images?
I've found several threads dealing about this subject but imo no real solution for protecting images from right click copying and drag and drop, view source etc. things.
There are several solutions when you do a google search and some look promising but implementing the technology in X-Cart is another story(?). Is there anybody who found a good way to get this solved? |
Re: Right click protection of images?
There is no way to protect images short of watermarking them. If you disable right click, people can simply grab them from their web cache, or hit the 'print screen' button. In addition, disabling right click prevents people from sending images of your products to their friends (as I often do)...and adds extra JavaScript to the site when it isn't really necessary.
Just my thoughts on the subject...but if you are really set on it, hotscripts.com has some nice scripts for it. |
Re: Right click protection of images?
Hi Balinor,
I understand what you're saying but there must be a way to -at least- make it (very) difficult for the average user to copy content/images to discurage them. One interesting application seems to be 'Secure Image Pro' but I haven't got a clue to if this can be implemented into X-Cart. This also applies with other hotscripts solutions; do you have any suggestions which can be implemeted into X-Cart? |
Re: Right click protection of images?
I would stay well clear of anything that requires the user to have flash/ java etc installed, many company security settings block these things which means your images wouldnt show at all.
Balinors suggestion of image watermarking is the best method as it involves work beyond just saving. I haven't come across any image protection which can't be worked around without a few tools or smart techniques. Water marks make it a pain to rip off. |
Re: Right click protection of images?
Do you have any suggestions for an automated watermarker; I've seen a mod by TelaFirma? Is it any good?

Re: Right click protection of images?
I actually use an excellent program : irfanview, which can do a lot of things, in batch mode. And specially watermarking all images in one shot..
Sunday on the cake : it is completely free |
Re: Right click protection of images?
Thanks Corto_Maltese, but it seems that this is for windows only (I use Mac :) ) and it's not online(?). Your signature says 'TelaFirma'; do you use their image mod and what are you experiences? I believe it doesn't watermark or am I wrong?
