Display PARENT category name on PRODUCT.TPL
 

What I am trying to do is display each products PARENT category name on the PRODUCTS.TPL and PRODUCT.TPL but I am not having too much luck. I have tried:

{$current_category.category} - Displays the subcategory the product resides in.
{$current_category.parentid} - This displays the correct category ID for the PARENT category

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just tried {$location[1].0} and this displays the PARENT category name properly on both PRODUCTS.TPL and PRODUCT.TPL however it does not work with search results.

When you run a search it will display the value as SEARCH RESULTS rather than the PARENT category name. Any help would be appreciated.

Well it can't show the parent category on the search results page because there isn't one.

Can the PARENT category not be determined somehow for each product and displayed in the search results along with PRODUCTS.TPL and PRODUCT.TPL? This seems like such a trivial thing to accomplish but I am absolutely baffled.
