are xcart's templates 4.0.xxx and 4.1 any different in term of designing and where things are? do they still use the same way of constructing them?

I want redesign my website with the new 4.1.x branch but using the old template style...

Too many to list...you would need to look at them to see. Some are minor, some are major. If you are asking if you can use your old .tpl files for the 4.1 branch, the answer is no.
