how to edit left nevigation for categories

I want to make my left nevigation for 'Categories' in a way such that it comes like this:
category1
subcat1
subcat2
category2
subcat1
subcat2
category3

how should I edit the 'customer/categories.tpl' ?
Please help me ....it's urgent.

Tell me in programming way...not any tools

X-cart version 4.0

No, actually you haven't or it would show up in your last post. Also, it needs to be your COMPLETE version (i.e. 4.0.19). You can find that information in your Summary section of your admin area. Add it to your signature please, it only takes 10 seconds to do.
