Can I change the SKU?

1.When adding a product to inventory from the admin,

a sku is automatically created.

Can I remove the automatically generated SKUXXXX,

and put whatever I want? Like xyz12345

2. Will I suffer negative consequences (due to mods) if I change in the language
lbl_sku value from "SKU" to "ITEM"?

Yes, you can enter whatever you want, generally something numeric.

No, it will just change all occurrences of SKU to ITEM.
