adding design skin but no skin1 directory
 

I have just done a default installation of the xcart 4.018. The files for the design skin are supposed to go into the skin1 directory. There is only a skin1_original directory. Do I simply create the skin1 OR was something else supposed to happen during the install (all the checks were ok).
ALso, the files inside templates_c directory are to be deleted, except there are none to begin with.

Did you go through the part where you select the default skin to install? That is the step that creates the skin1 directory.

Thank you very much - your question twigged the answer. I just went back in and reinstalled the skin files- going to the default 3 column instead of 2 and that did it.
