Probably an easy one...

Hello,
I have a site that has 10 main catagories to the left and I have a "bookmark" type navigation of five tabs at the top. The top tabs are sections and the left nav is catagories. I want to make a new catagory but I do not want to have it show up in the catagories to the left, it will be accessible from a top tab called "Specials" I asked support how to do this and this is the response:

The problem is that you can't see disable category. However you can create a root disable category, then create an enablem sub-category of that category, named "Specials". Than create a link from "Specials" on your site to "../customer/home.php?cat=ID" where ID is the new category ID - you can see it in admin area in "Address" line when you go to edit the category. If you find this difficult, please contact us and we will provide you with the quote for this job. This will cost 1 hour of work ($25).

I originally tried to create a catagory, disable it and just link to its ID, this did not work, then I left a message on support, I tried that solution and when I clicked the link, it basically just refreshed the page and showed the home page again, only with the cat. ID in the URL title now. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Chris

Are you saying that you created a main (root) category and then set this to disabled.

Then created a sub category of this main (root) category and set this one to active.

Then created a link from your specials link to the cat id of the active sub category.

i think this is what they are trying to explain to you here.

Yes,
You are righto on, thats what I did and it just refreshes the page I'm currently on. Here's the link:

The tab at the top is "Specials" that I'm working with.
