No seperate tpl files for product listings?

After much pissing about I have finally found out that skin1/customer/main/products.tpl is the same file that displays the short and long versions of a product.

Am I to assume that to modify the short listing of a product you have to re-write & re-name the entire product listing code? This seems way out of my league and to be honest pretty pathetic.

All i'm trying to do is alter the display of my products in list form and I can't seem to be able to do that without trashing the main product display code.

There has to be a way around this surely?

I've just spent $100 on a mod that will allow me to use custom templates per product. But I can't see how this is possible unless I want both the short form and long form displays of a product to look the same? Is there no way of splitting these up?

I find it pretty amazing that just about every single aspect of x-cart is called seperatley via some kind of code yet something as important (and lets face probably the most desirable customization) as this uses the same bloody template for 2 jobs!

You lost me. Products.tpl controls the product display under a category. Product.tpl controls the product detail page. They are completely separate.

I just edited products.tpl and all of the changes I made appeared on both the listing & the 'see details' page.

??

I didn't even touch product.tpl

Then you must have some sort of custom mod in place, as products.tpl has nothing to do with the product detail page by default.

Well I have just installed websitecm's 'customproduct & customcatergory' mods. But the reason I bought and installed them was to be able to do exactly what i'm trying to do - Use different templates for the varying product types in my store.

Surely if these mods somehow messed with the code so I couldn't do this they would be worthless?

Here are the mods I bought and installed LINK
