Gift Certificate Recovery mod - free at BCSEngineering

Carrie and her staff at BCSEngineering have done a terrific job on some recent work for me. My latest request was for a mod that would allow my customers to easily retrieve their Gift Certificate ID codes and balances. Apparently, the coding went so quickly that Carrie decided to make the finished mod available for free!

Here's how it works (4.0.x):
Customer clicks on the Recover Gift Certificate ID link and provides their email address. Any matching Gift Certificate information is emailed to their address.

Get it here:

I hope this proves useful to some of you (seems like it should be a built-in function of x-cart IMHO). Thanks and kudos to Carrie and her team!

umm carrie, if i may,

is the gift certificate # and balance sent to A or B?

A. the customer who purchased the gift certificate

or

B. the person who received the gift certificate
(e-mail address of the person you are sending the Gift Certificate to)

The person who received the gift certificate (B). So this works for e-gift certificates only.

Thanks,

Carrie

"Only"?

It would be good to make it work with coupon codes.
They enter the coupon code and xcart tells them:
A. when it expires and what % they have OFF
or
B. when it expires and what amount of $ they have in the balance

Since some cooupons are % and some are $ based.

Thanks for replying as always :)

You could create an interface in which a customer could put in a coupon code to see if it's still valid, etc. One problem I see is people could exploit this unless great care is taken, entering random stuff, or getting a program to do it for them so that they can get a coupon.

Carrie, is there a way to make this work for

the paper gift certificate as well?

NOT RECOVERY. JUST Balance.

1.Gift recipient goes to ur site.
2.Gift recipient clicks on "gift certificate balance" link
3. they input their gift cert # (NOT THEIR EMAIL)
4. xcart shows them on the current website their $ balance
