Putting all pages inside table to control page width

Hi,
This is my first post so please forgive any errors in etiquette. I am learning how to customize the site and everything looks understandable. However I would like to restrict the page widths to 800px in order to control page layouts on static pages etc... using a table. Can someone point me in the right direction to modify the correct templates for this to work?
thanks

Added to request

Further to my request above. I have found a post that talks about editing the rectangle_top.tpl which I have done and it does partially what I want. I can now centre each page and limit the width but I also want to add drop shadows to the sides of the viewable page and a page background tiled image so I need more sophisticated control over each page. Any advise?

Have a look in skin1/customer/home.tpl

This is your main page, you will see that it has the header and the bottom here and one big table with your nav columns and central space. Whatever you do here will reflect throughout your site. And of course the main css file skin1.css is going to be needed.

Thanks Paul, I'm on it.

Have a look at rectangle_top.tpl as well, there is a table cell in there that controls the entire width of the site. It is set to 100% by default but you can adjust this to whatever you want.
