SKU Removal, getting a "Cannot edit binary code" m

Yes, Padraic Ryan is going to rip me apart, but I have tried removing the SKU from the product listing by doing exactly what numerous previous posts have recommended, but when I get to (skin1/customer/main....) I am not allowed to edit the binary files of the product.tpl. What does that even mean?

I just upgraded to version .17 and did not patch skin 1/skin1.css. Is this causing the problem?

Why would I rip you apart? :?

Are you editing the templates via your admin panel or some other method?

lol, because you always comment to search the past posts because the SKU topic is addressed many, many times! (I did, but I got stuck after trying all I could find).

I am going through the file manager of my website host, not the admin page or webmaster mode.

I get such a bad reputation for asking people to search, post their version in their signature and read the manual :(

You really shouldn't edit files via a control panel, as you can cause some problems that way. Your best bet is to use the X-Cart admin area (edit templates) or download the files via FTP and edit them locally. Try that and see what happens.

And thank you for searching for the SKU solution first before posting! :)

No offense intended, because I agree with you completely! Usually I can garner what I need from the posts, I just got stuck. I will try the suggestion. I equated the webmaster mode with the template editor and thought I couldn't do it that way. uggghh. Thanks!
