A REALLY newbie problem editing a template
 

I've actually had X-Cart for months now and had the X-Cart people do a bunch of mods for me, so the program will be what I need it for. So tonight I figure I will MAKE time to go ahead and start dinking around with this and start working on getting it into a useable format for my needs.

So the first simple thing I think I will tackle is to merely change the logo image to one that is on my site. So I go in and modify the head.tpl file, and upon clicking the 'save file' button, I get an error message:

Permission denied error!
File /head.tpl was not saved.

OK, so I'm obviously overlooking something obvious. But I logged in as admin (even says so on the screen I am in!), but why can't I edit the file.

The reason for this is that you must set the permissions of the .tpl files on your server so that they are editable.

You do this by setting a chmod value of 666 and you can use an ftp client like cuteftp to do this.

Connect to your server, browse for the files in skin1 directory and then right click on the files and choose chmod.

Search the board for chmod to get some more info on this
