Adding LOGIN and LOGOUT buttons on home page

I have been looking for a solution to add a login button for customers to return to site and login should they wish to view previous orders, the orinal xcart user and password login screen was taken off the home page due to making the page over stretch, would like a simple login button (wich i have achieved on the page, just needs to initiate the login process to ask for user name and password on a new page?????.....

Any ideas appreciated, you can see the button ive made it kind of blends in with the top banner buttons. http://www.realsecurity.co.uk

General Settings --> Use secure login form on a separate page (HTTPS):

So basically i would need https (SSL) for this to work? the login i have is ok just wanted to see what this link was for, i have managed to get the login page to open, just when going to logout doesnt display the Modify profile, just the button with no text......although on the left menu pane its there so not really a problem.

Main thing is a customer can return to site now and LOGIN to see there account, logging out isnt really important unless a customer is using a shared computer, but this facility works if pressing login button again.....

You should be using an SSL (https) if you aren't already. Otherwise, any information your client submits is wide open for all to see. But yes, that secure login won't work unless you have an SSL installed. If you installed the login mod I posted, you don't need the secure login form.
