Coming soon
I'd like to add a "Coming Soon" section to my storefront and I was wondering whether it's possible to do it in the same vein as with Featured Products. I'd like to add the information for the product as normal and just leave it disabled, but be able to still show it on the front page. Any suggestions?

What if you just left the quantity as 0 for now? So that the customer can't order it yet.

That wouldn't quite do what I want it to do, unfortunately. All I could do with it is have it listed with the other products, and possibly put it in with the Featured Products - but I want to save that for products which are actually for sale. I'm hoping for an additional section - preferably just above Featured Products. I'm pretty sure I could write a template to add in above Featured, but I don't know how to create something similar to the Featured Products in the admin section so I can add or take away products the same way.

I believe this would be an excellent feature request for the X-Cart developers.
In the meantime, would it be possible to add a couple of extra fields, one to define whether the product is pre-release, and the other to define the date? Or perhaps just the release date would be enough, and if a value is in that field, the product is assumed to be pre-release? I don't know much about programming, but it seems to me that adding a smarty template that displays all of the products in the current section that also has a value in the pre-release field could possibly work. The new template would have a place to display the release date of the product. The main problem is that the pre-release product would be displayed with the regular products as well. Or maybe this is a plus? If anyone figures out how this can work, I'd love to be able to announce coming products on my store as well. |
I went to xcart and they did a little customisation for me that works a treat. I think they charged me U$50
In the area where you add/modify a product under Availability I got them to add an option called. Visible, but not available for sale. This then allows you to show the product in a Coming Soon category and it shows no buttons. Here is my daughter's site with it working. http://www.thatsmekidz.com.au/home.php?cat=7 Cheers Chris |
Well, that's exactly what I'm looking for - however, I'm not willing to fork out the $50 for something that isn't incredibly important but is more something that would be nice to have. Hell, it's not even my site, I'm just making it for someone :) Anyway, if anyone knows how it was done and is willing to share their knowledge, please feel free to chip in!

I second that concept -- the feature should be an option in X-Cart and it is not worth $50, especially if the feature has already been developed. 8O
I mean, this isn't a full add-on module or anything! Although, in my opinion, the feature should also have the option to insert the expected availability date and give the webmaster the option to take pre-release orders or not. In a similar line, we should also have an option to set the status of a product to 'backorder' and be able to take customer orders for the product even when stock is showing zero. An extra notification to the customer is all that is required to let them know when stock is expected. And a third option, for those who handle drop shipped goods where keeping track of stock levels makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, perhaps a setting in the product table to make stock levels irrelevant? Perhaps the X-Cart developers will want to take care of their customers' needs and develop these features for the next release? Go X-Cart developers! Yeah!! (Just a little cheering to get the ball rolling.) |
It's well worth it to me. time is money for me.
Asking around in forums is time. $75 for the mod that costs me maybe 50 and I make some money for my time in doing the quote etc. I do this for all my clients (daughter excepted of course). For them to get a customised cart from scratch it would cost them 5-10 times the amount. They are happy. I am happy :> Cheers Chris |
Hi,
Any update on this? Meaning, is there a Coming Soon feature which allows me to accept pre-orders? TIA! |
Jeff,
Please don't double post, I have removed your duplicate post. Please keep all discussion about this topic in one thread. Thank you. |
