display products from specific sub-category on main page
 

I am trying to figure out how to include/display all of the products from a specific sub-category on my main page (in the welcome.tpl template to be exact) to be displayed on the main page, similiar to how featured products are displayed.

Is there any easy way to include the products.tpl file and pass the sub-category name? I have tried various combinations and nothing is working.

Why not just add them as featured products?

I am already utilizing the featured products in another area on the front page (in a corner somewhere) and these use a different format (single vertical layout) vs. the regular categories that are using the multi 2-column layout.

I created another category called frontpage_features that will include shirts I want to "showcase" on the frontpage and rotate out at my will giving them some more exposure. The featured products are being used to showcase the 2 newest products in a more visible location.

Any ideas?
