Remove Tax From Minicart
 

Hi All,

Has anyone removed the tax from the minicart calculation?

Because tax is calculated based on where the product is being delivered I thought it would make sense to not calculate tax in the minicart, just the total of all items in the cart without the tax. Then add a little statement underneath it like Б─°note: tax added at checkout".

Any thoughts on where to make these changes?

I've searched the form to see if this has already been addressed ... but no luck.

I think i've got a better soloution (not sure how well it would work though with US states tax as I have no experience of them).

I had a mod done that uses geo targetting, so as soon as someone comes to my store it checks their IP and decides if they are coming from a country that I should include tax on or not (for example if they come from any country in europe show price including tax, if elsewhere show prices ex VAT), then if for some reason the IP table is incorrect when they create an account it is overidden by what the customer selects as their country.

This not only works on minicart but also for all prices and alt currency in the products and product tpls

Sounds like a very interesting mod.

Our store is in Canada and we have different taxes/province (as IБ─≥m sure many other places are). Can you determine where a visitor is coming from down to the provincial level via geo targeting, or just by country?

If not it sounds like your mod could easily be altered to always default to no tax in the mini cart ... which is what I would prefer if I can't determine location of customer at the provincial level. Any ideas where I would find the code to alter?

I think you can if you purchase the correct iptables , it would probably be more work but take a look at http://www.maxmind.com/app/products

they have a province state ip location for us and canada.

I couldnt tell you what code to change as this mod is wayyyyy above my level of codeing it's something I would and did pass to a proper coder.

That website for the IP list is very cool ... but i was looking for a simpler solution. I guess I'd like to simply remove the tax from the calculation for now. Thanks for the direction though, I could see that being very useful.

I've been hunting for the code that adds the minicart tax but with little luck, i'll keeping "surfing" the x-cart files until I find it. :wink:
