Editing Complete Page Layout?
 

Newbie here.

I seem to have learned the main template files for tweaking: head.tpl, menu.tpl, dialog.tpl etc ..

but what about editing how each of these templates are laid out? I would really like to customize the layout completely.

like, what do i do if i want to remove auth.tpl from the right column and throw it somewhere else? or move news.tpl to the left column?

I'm new to the whole concept of smarty, so I'm still ramping up, but are there larger 'container' templates at work here? ( i guess that would be the skins) I had thought i could just open up home.php and rearrange where the templates are called, but I guess it's not that easy.

Is there some kind of global skin file that I can play with to rearrange how the different templates are placed on the page??
