Category link go directly to Product Detail page?

How can I make the Category links go directly to the Product Detail page of the first product in that particular Category?

This site has <20 products and 4-5 categories. What I've done is, use Related Products so the links to the few other products in the category are displayed on the Product detail page. So now I want the category link to go directly to the Product Detail page of the first product in the category.

I've racked my brain trying to do this. [-o<

Anyone have an ideas on how to accomplish this?

With that few a number of products, you might want to consider just doing hard links instead of using the auto-generated category list. From what some of the other threads have been saying about speed, the categories are a major cause of X-Cart slowdowns. Just a thought.

I've been considering doing just that. I just figured I would try to automate it so the client could make changes without my help. If performance was too much of an impact, I thought I could always revert to hard links.

I am new to this, but have seen it done on the example, and what you get when you purchase the x-cart.

In the example of the x-cart, with the category sport, it just displays the products without having any subcategories.

If I am right, to accomplish this, when you add a product, only link it to the main category, and make sure there is no subcategories linked to the main category.

I haven't actually tried this myself, but I need to do the same thing, and I am going to follow these steps, so I don't know how it is going to go.
Hope it works.
Lindsay.
