Be Careful and Backup when upgrading to 5.3.1.4
Guys , make a backup of both your data base and complete cart files. I got many X Carts going. I thought I was done upgrading and installing - hoping to focus on marketing but ....
Going from 5.2.7 to 5.2.9 - 100% Success Going from 5.2.9 to 5.3.1.4 - 0% success Going to a clean install after crashing 4 carts and counting - 80% success on first try. Main reason for 5.29 upgrade failures is that there is no option to just upgrading the main 5.3.1.4 core module by itself - its seems all 17 modules need to be upgraded at once -no advanced option - not good. But after backing up after every upgrade level to 5.29 - that last attempt at going from 5.2.9 to 5.3.1.4, I ended up with a different upgrade screen just offering me the Core 5.3.1.4 module and nothing else - success. The remaining 16 modules then appeared up with the advanced mode option back up so I could upgrade individual modules. Just a heads up. |

5.3 brought some serious changes. If you have a successful site, you should absolutely make a copy of your store and run the upgrade there. Actually I think that goes for all upgrades, but for this one it is a must!

Thanks tonerguy,
I am planning to make this jump in the next week or so and will be careful. Once of the reasons we moved this store to 5 was for the modular customizations and easier upgrades. I have found it to be better than 4 in that regard, but it was brought it's own set of frustrations along with it. |
