Is X-Payments a merchant account
Do I need a separate merchant account with X-payments (hosted) or is that what X-payments is?

Re: Is X-Payments a merchant account
X-Payments is not a merchant processor. It is a piece of software that isolates the customer data from your store (as required for PCI compliance). So you will indeed need to get a merchant account that will work with X-Payments.

I just want to add to Thomas words that you can use any merchant account that integrates with X-Payments. See http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=X-Payments:User_manual#Appendix_A._Supported_payment _gateways |

Not with Paypal standard, but with a true merchant account? |

It is the PCI requirement to use PA-DSS certified software for credit card processing so the answer is yes, you have to **if** you need to be within PCI scope, i.e. accept credit cards right on your site pages. This applies to payment methods like Authorize.net AIM, PayPal Payments PRO, etc. If you are going to use payment processors like PayPal Standard, 2Checkout.com, Authorize.net SIM you do not have to use PA-DSS certified software. |
