changing basic color/button sets etc
 

Hello,

I have a new setup of x-cart (3.3.1) and it seems once installed, there is no way to change the button set or basic colors (other than editing the templates).

I wonder how I could hopefully just change the button set to another one so I Can see if I like one combination better than another as a starting point.

A second question is for all of you that have created wonderfully different looks for your stores, what is the basic process used to accomplish this? Do you simply edit the information from within the admin section or are you editing other files elsewhere? I realize some of the changes mentioned here would require making changes to the actual template files to say remove various includes and such. I am just trying to figure out the safest way to start making changes while also allowing myself the ability to revert back in case of major mistakes :)

Back up your skin1 directory and put it somewhere safe. :)

Then start tackling the changes you want to make. I started with a basic concept in my HTML editor, then translated it over template by template. [Which is really not much fun...]

The style sheet controls LOTS of things, so you might want to start there first, then make adjustments.

The other thing that saved my sanity for the first few x-Cart edits was adding a < !-- template path/name -- > to the beginning and ending of each template, one said begins, one said end.

I *wish* that were an option to turn on and off -- the debug panel and the webmaster mode only go SO far.
