Why bother with combersome forms, when you can have it all integrated with their API? :?

I plan on updating this mod to allow some new features they have implemented in the API very soon. 8)

I think $49.99 is more than reasonable for anyone who is dealing with Fraud on a daily basis, not just a handful of orders in a day, then a 20 queries is fine and dandy. But anyone who's anyone knows enough charge backs and your merchant rate will sky rocket. This is the whole reason I integrated their API was to lower my risk factor and lower my merchant rate back down to something more fair since 2checkout.com's fraud dept. just plain sucked. Finally they decided to do some changes to their fraud dept.

Anyone can also buy X-Cart's Fraud system as well, it uses the same API from maxmind but has other fraud features they have added. It's cheaper than mine but then again, you guys are out of the US, so naturally it's gonna cost less.

If you want me to move this thread elsewhere I'd be more than happy to. I'm just simply showing the other options that are available, and not the "free" 20 queries a day.

As "out of the US guy" I have MaxMind API integrated(with BIN details) and I am user of their "Premium CCFD Service with Geographical and BIN Details" service.
And yes, $49.99 is more than reasonable.

BUT this is not what we talking about in this thread.

The real subject is simple hack for easily use MaxMind 20 FREE queries per IP address per day. Maybe this hack is rubbish, but that can be discussed here.

The price is not reasonable when you can get it direct from Maxmind at a fraction of that price.

I find it a bit of a scam when you offer a service at better then 10 times the cost that you can get it direct.

This mod should get it's IP validation direct from Maxmind.
But you decided to purchase the Database of IP's ( Now we have to trust you are updating this database ) and you setup the mod to use your hosted database.

Cost $49 for 3,000 lookups

Maxmind cost $20 per 50,000 lookups for Geo IP lookup
Their Min Fraud service is only $5 for 1,000 which offers way more info than what your Mod is offering.

So you purchased the database at $370 and we have to hope you are buying updates at $90 each

Personally I think I trust Maxmind more that your service and based on the price your service is highly over priced

I am quite upset your company would do this to the point that I would no longer recommend X-Cart

It is not quite the same service, Qualiteam states that they use unique algorithms to process MaxMind's data. So it is technically a value added service at that point.

I've never used either so I cannot vouch for any differences in accuracy.

We use just MaxMind services and are happy with it. It's pretty accurate in finding potential fraud.

They are adding nothing

Maxmind has a few different services
GEO IP and Fraud checking

Min-fraud is popular which lets you know how far away the IP is from the given address
Also lets you know if they are using a proxy
and ranks it on a fraud scale
This is what the mod should be doing.
It should be setup to use Maxmind's min-fraud service

The service is free for 1,000 queries

I believe this is the best way to avoid fraud
For those that want higher level of checking they offer phone verification and even will call the person

Now here we have X-Cart piggie backing off a service that is complete and charging more for it than you can get it for direct.

There is nothing they can add to it to improve what Maxmind offers so don't believe that for a second.

Well Quantum Gateway for example includes MaxMind free of charge with their gateway service. Does that means that getting MaxMind directly is a rip off becuase they charge you something?

It's a free market - XC can charge whatever they feel is right for their service, it is another question if you want to use them or not. I don't know what they offer or what is behind their service but you probably don't know either so simply saying that it's a scam doesn't seem fair at all.
