CDSEO Installation

Hi,

I have a question about installing this product. On Step 1 of the install instructions it says:

Rename the cdseo-prod and cdseo-cat files in the upload folder of the installation package to search engine friendly keywords with no .php extension. These will be used as folders for your category and product urls.

What are people renaming these files to? I was thinking of renaming them to product for cdseo-product and cat for cdseo-cat. Would that be a common naming convention?

Regards,
Kylie

I'm in the process of naming these two files myself. If you are not proficient in SEO, you should consult with someone who is that can suggest a keyword or phrase that would help rank your pages.

Yes, it is meant to add a keyword to your url...product and cat don't help :) For example, if you are selling widgets, you'd change them to widgets.

This is a BIG part of cdseo's value...

keywords embedded in your url (uh, duh, the point, yes?)

use keywords relevant to your content.

Thanks Balinor,

I understand what cdseo is used for. I was just confused a little. I though I had to have a directory before a keyword gets inserted into the url.

I will get a professional to install it for me.

Kylie

You do need the sub-directory, but that sub-directory gets named to a keyword relevant to your store.

hi guys, the FAQ also mentions changing these two names but mentions a .htaccess file that also has to be changed. I cant find any reference to these two in my root .htaccess file nor the local .htaccess file. So when I change these to my chosen keywords, the site cant find the categories or products :O(

any ideas anyone?

We use our rather archaic SEO layout from when we were still with Venda (e.g. /icat/categoryname/ for categories and /invt/productsku for products). Simply because with over 100 thousand pages indexed and 380 thousand back linked it would be silly to change our format.
