Product Variant - Display different Info based on choice
 

I am looking to move to XC5 one of the features I like to have is the ability to display different information for each Variant selected. I would like to use Global Attributes to display the info to keep everything consistent.


Example:
Selling long sleeve shirts, size S, M, L. Each size will have a different sleeve length.
When a customer selects S the Global Attributes will display one set of data and when M or L is selected different sets of data will be displayed.


It would seem this would be a standard feature but I cannot seem to find it.

I took a closer look, it will only give you the possibility of change SKU/Price/Quantity/Weight, and doesn't let you change, for example, the description. What exactly are "data" you want to display according to the attribute?

Although my products are not shirts we can stay with this example since it is easy to relate too:


So I have S, M,& L sizes. Each of these sizes will have different dimensions for:
Collar Size
Shirt Length
Sleeve Length
Chest Measurement


Each of these items are setup as Attributes under a Class (Shirts).
The Variant of Size (S,M,L) will allow the customer to select a size. Once selected I want the data for the selected size to show under the Specifications tab. This should allow a consistent display of information and allow comparisons just by selecting a different size.

You will need to have this custom coded. Variants when selected update the Spects tab with proper info. Attributes (options) on the other hand are not consider separate product so they do not change anything. The only thing an attribute will change is price/weight if it is set as modifier.


Variants are based on attribute and have number of properties which you can set - these will change. But if you want to show a set of other attributes based on which variant is selected- this needs to be custom coded.

Is there another standard feature within XC5 or an add-on that will allow me to display separate information?.


Part of the reason to move to XC5 from XC4 is to allow easy updates and patches. My current site has lots of custom code which prohibits easy updates.

Not in the way you described it. Custom coding is the only way I see it done.

Think of it like this - everything you have custom coded in your XC4 store now it will have to be custom coded for XC5 as well. 90% sure.
The difference is whatever you custom code for XC5 will not be in the way of upgrading the cart. So you get to have the newest cart version with custom coded features and easy (relatively) future updates
