New version of XC SEO being written - feature requests?

Hi all, I'm working on building a new version of XC SEO that will function similar to CDSEO (but not exactly the same), in that you will be able to customize your urls, creating full url structures (folder1/folder2/product.html) with a proper hierarchy

I'm posting about this, to see what other features users would like available in the new version of XC SEO.

What would you like to see an SEO modification do? How would you like to see certain features implemented? Any requests, comments, suggestions are welcome!

Features requested:
- Custom meta keywords/description per url

Maybe a possibility of adding keywords/descriptions to each custom url ?

thx for moving this balinor (tho I missed the thread move, had to search for it, lol)

chamber, you're requesting custom meta keywords/description per url, correct?
that shouldn't be too hard to do, i'm adding it to the list

Would be nice if there would be a good SEO module that works on Windows Based Servers. There must be more people out there not running on Apache Servers...
Also Custom URL's for:
- News Letters
- Static Pages
- Manufacturers

XC SEO handles static pages and manufacturer urls. if you wanted to test XC SEO on your windows server, i could look into writing up rewrite rules for your environment. you'd have to tell me what rewrite mod your server supports, so i can know what format to put the rules in

Re: New version of XC SEO being written - feature requests?

Hi there,

I have one very important want for SEO, given that X-Cart is designed for multiple languages.

1) Problem
The present versions of SEO add-ons (all I know of, including the one you have done to date) do not work for Multiple Languages or non-ascii characters (they only work for ascii domains and ascii languages).

2) Suggested Request
It would be great if the new SEO version you do is based on UTF-8 and can be used with all fonts / languages and also with IDN (International Domain Names).
IDNs are something like www.xn--05q878am23atne.hk (情趣內衣.hk = sexy-lingerie.hk) - these are starting to take off and become used with languages apart from English... so would be nice if the SEO side also worked with these type of domains.
Namely - use of SEO for multiple languages on one site, with urls and other SEO features working in native language text.

This would be a great idea... cheers, Asiaplay.

Wow, that's a helluva request :-)

Asiaplay, what version of PHP is running on your server? The reason I ask, is that for proper UTF-8/Unicode support, you'll need to be on a PHP 5 server with at least MySQL 4.1

This feature will take some careful planning, especially to ensure that security is properly considered, as handling different character sets can actually present security holes.

I'll read up on this further, to see how difficult it would be to implement unicode support into XC SEO

thanks!

Hi Intel352,

Thanks for your comment... yes, you are dead right on the server set-up required for this.
Smile - I agree is a jump (but really is what is missing from all SEO add-ons - resulting in us presently having to do a lot of coding to build in SEO).

Actually I am running around 10 languages at the moment.. but once works for one, should work for more I guess.
