Calling X-Cart E-Goods Users: Scaling and Design

Hi guys,

Of those of you out there who use X-cart for selling downloadable products, has anyone had to deal with the challenges of scaling up to very large stores of product files? like Terrabytes of data? If so, how did you deal with this? did you separate out the /files directory where all the product files were on a separate server to the X-Cart store?

What about using two websites to source product files from the same central files store? Does anyone do this today?

My store is getting larger and also many are duplicates across two stores so was wondering what you guys were doing today. I am aware of some solutions out there but would be keen on some real world experiences.

Thanks guys :-)

We haven't maxed out our dedicated server yet. But we are reaching our limit on one of our hard drives, so we are going to need to move our shopping cart directory to our second hard drive and symlink to it.

Thanks for the reply ScrapOrchard.

So are you symlinking your /files directory under xcart to a new dedicated hard drive then?

We have two hard drives in our dedicated server.. and we have just about filled one up.. so we are going to have to move the store to the second hard drive and symlink to it. But when we upgraded to 4.3.2 we had to symlink to the old cart /files directory during testing and it worked like a charm.

Cheers, that sounds like a good idea. I have two sites and maybe I can now consolidate the files for both of them under one volume....
