change SEO friendly urls for product pages

Hi,

We need to change our website seo friendly urls for product pages.

For example current url is www.site.com/productname.html

We need to chnage this to

www.site.com/category/productname

if it contains subcategory means

www.site.com/category/subcategory/productname

We are using CESEO module.

If anyone have idea kindly help...

Thanks in Advance

Kannan,
Just wanted to mention that I think this is a great idea. Did you get this suggestion from your SEO consultant?

It's obvious but I will mention: make sure you redirect the old URL to it's new location.

I'm not sure if this can be accomplished with CDSEO. I have achieved this structure with X-Cart's default Clean URLs. Hopefully someone with more CDSEO experience can chime in.

In X-Cart 5 you can achieve this structure by changing the "use_canonical_urls_only" setting in etc/config.php file to "Off".

Unfortunately, I don't know if this is possible with the CDSEO module.

Re: change SEO friendly urls for product pages

With XC Classic I could see this getting messy.

How would you create a URL for a product that is in two categories? Would it be duplicate content? Or would only the main category be entered into the URL? If only main category, what happens when a customer finds the product through it's Extra Category and not the Main Category, would it look bad to customers/google?

Just curious, because if this turns out to be very helpful for SEO, we would be interested in purchasing the code as a module if its completed :) [Hint Hint to developers!]

Since you are using CDSEO you can go into the CDSEO settings and change your URL settings from .html to folder.
