Cataog in Main Menu Bar
 

I'm using the default crisp white skin, and I don't have a main 'shop' or 'catalog' menu in the primary menu bar?

How do I add this - and have it auto update with categories as they are added? I'm surprised this isn't default as the main purpose is shopping?

Do you mean the side menu with all the categories? If you are referring to the top menu - all links there are added from the Catalog > Menus section. The categories menu is located on the side bar (but it won't be displayed if a 1-column type chosen for the template at the Look&Feel > Layout).

If you want to add all your categories to the top bar - there is a special Horizontal Flyout Menus module for this purpose. Check it on the market.

I bought x-cart nearly 20 years ago, and then it was focussed on selling - easily adaptable - great community and third party marketplace - most features built in

I've come back to it with V5 and despite paying a not insignificant upgrade fee it seems like everything useful is another fee.

I'm starting to wonder if X-Cart is worth it any more.
