Flyout menus?

Hello,

Has anyone had any experience with flyouts in XCN? I really would like to be able to also add static pages to the nav menu bar and not just the little text only one "primary?" at the top.

Anyone have any input into this or seen a module for it? Depending on cost I might be willing to pay to have it made as the navigation bar is pretty silly without the ability to add static pages.

Thanks

Nick

Nick,
I have extensive experience customizing the flyout menu. I would be interested in taking this on for you.
Here is an example where we added static pages: http://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/

And here is another:http://www.vort.com/

Depending on the level of control you require, this can be a simple task or a very complicated one.

Mike,

I would be very interested in having you take on this project.

As far as control, I am not sure what my choices are, but it would be nice to be able to still manage it somehow in the admin rather than have the pages hard-coded as our site is constantly changing.

Thanks for the offer and I look forward to discussing it with you. I sent you an email.

Great! I've emailed you. Let me know if you don't get it. Going to be a fun project!

Edit: Ha, I think our emails crossed each other in the ether... If you allow it, and I remember it, we'll post the finished code here when the job is done.

Mike,

fabricmartfabrics is a ROCKETSHIP. Can you share their server specs (dedicated, cloud, CDN?)

If this is XC5 - I am impressed with the speed.
nope... 4.4.4 (which was one of my favorite xcart releases!)
http://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/VERSION
(if you are the admin, you really should pull or rename this file!)

Not so impressed with site speed for vort --

Just sharing.

You know I am a big fan of the xMenus mod from TXS - but there is overhead in it (and yes, many files are encrypted) so it's not a favorite for some - and yes, it has its issues. But the IDEA of a menu system where any link can go anywhere, and not just products/categories, is the new normal.

I'm watching to see what other devs come up with for XC5.

thanks for this.

Re: Flyout menus?

Yes he was asking for XC5 not XC4 Flyout Menus :)

@Jeremy - with the traffic the Fabric site has the speed is unbelievable. I know their spects and it is a combination of server setup and resources (the details are EWD secret :)). Needless to say it is on XC best recommended host...

Mike has done some great work on this site though so the speed may have something to do with that as well

Yes, yes it is. I designed this site from the ground up, and I took every care in making it fast and efficient. I was able to work with their team on a weekly basis for almost 2 years. It is quite custom. But I need to place the credit for the speed where it is due, EWD. Emerson put us on one of his SSD dedicated servers, and the speed increase was phenomenal. No cloud, No CDN.

Vort by comparison is on Amazon Web Services and uses the cloud. Again the site is optimized, but not even 1/10th as much as Fabric Mart. Just proves that good code on a good server can beat expensive and complicated CDN setups. I think the server that EWD offers is in the $300 a month range, high traffic sites need to get one.
