"May Long" in Canada
Hi everyone,
Canadians are going to have a long weekend due to "Victoria Day" celebrations on May 19th. My congrats to everyone who is going to celebrate this event. Have fun, much joy and .. I don't know what else. Perhaps someone from Canada explain here how to celebrate Victoria Day? According to Wikipedia this is a significant holiday in Canada. |

Bored and curious ;) I've never been to Canada - birthplace of ice hockey which is my favorite game. |

I've been to Vancouver and Coquitlam, beautiful country and great public transportation.
If I didn't enjoy the coastline of North Carolina (southeast USA) so much, I think Canada would likely be my next choice based on beauty of the land. Tho, if I could choose anywhere in the world, from what I've seen in pictures, New Zealand would be tops. |

Agreed, just harder to find in some (I wouldn't move to any other area of the USA, based on beauty, as most of it seems uninspiring to me).

Re: "May Long" in Canada
Dear Alex,
Yes, Victoria Day is a big holiday for us Canadians. It is Queen Victoria's birthday, which is on May 24th. We celebrate it on the Monday on or before the 24th. It is always on the Monday so people can have a long weekend and have enough time to enjoy camping or going to the cottage in the north. Our nickname for the holiday is the May 2 4 weekend (May two four) because of the double meaning (the 24th of May, and because we drink a lot of beer on this day and a case of beer is 24 bottles or cans -- so a case of beer is called a two four) We have four long weekends in the summer, and this is the first one. So even though summer technically starts on June 21st, in our minds, the summer starts on the May 2 4 long weekend. Cheers! Nancy |
