Fancy Categories Categories

I like having the javascript slide out functionality of fancy categories, but we use an awful lot of 3rd level categories, and this makes our pages enormous. Is there anyway to show the root categories, and only make the flyouts show one tier of sub categories?

Basically if the categories are setup like this:

 - sub-cat 1

    - sub-cat a

    - sub-cat b

 - sub-cat 2

    - sub-cat a

    - sub-cat b

root category 2

 - sub-cat 1

    - sub-cat a

    - sub-cat b

 - sub-cat 2

    - sub-cat a

    - sub-cat b

The only ones I want available in fancy categories are these:

Personally, I would recommend scrapping Fancy cats and using this mod:

If you haven't already noticed, Fancy Cats is a HUGE piece of code, and will slow your site down significantly.
