Cookie popup

Hi all,

How are you other EU folks handling cookie consent on Xcart? I can't find an addon so looks like it'll need to be some custom code. Surprised something isn't available off the shelf still.

For anyone not in the loop outside EU, the popup is a legal requirement and has to show to new visitors. Very soon (28 march) we'll also have to give users the option to turn cookies on and off, just to add another layer of complexity.

Re: Cookie popup

Indeed - there was functionality/a module in later versions of X-Cart 4 for this to make people agree to cookies before shopping.
However, by X-Cart 5, they correctly realised that this was overkill, and visitors just need to be made aware of the cookie policy, so no such popup or anything is required anymore - hence v5 not having anything.

So the popup was a requirement, but not anymore.

Having failed to upset small businesses that way, next up is GDPR legislation - which should be getting more attention than it is.

Hi Paul,

This knowledge is very out of date. The pop up and providing an option to choose cookies is absolutely imperative for GDPR.

GDPR is to do with the storing of personal data.

Re: Cookie popup

Correct, and it covers cookie usage and the ability for people to pro actively opt in rather than passively.

I wanted to ask

1.

is this above page current for x cart 5 or x cart 4 or both?

2.

If current for x cart 5, can the functional cookies be turned off?

If so, how do we do this?

Or is this technically difficult to do or not possible, thus even though they are "functional" they are in essence essential because we cant turn them off?

Thanks for any input

I believe in X-Cart 5 there is no difference between "functional" and "required" cookies. Even on the above page for X-Cart 4 it is obvious that without "functional" cookies many important functions stop working. My interpretation of the page is that "functional" means "required by some important functions".

There is another forum thread discussing GDPR, but I think I should post the following link there too (just in case someone find this thread first):
