Flyout menus (number of products)

My flyout menus seem to be showing number of products in category, even if they're out of stock (despite the fact that I'm hiding out of stock items in general store options).

Any way I can get it to show number of AVAILABLE products in the category?

Easy,

Go to Settings, Modules, select Configure next to 'Flyout Menus'.

then deselect 'Show number of products in category'.

Done

Lol. Admittedly, a good solution. But even turning them off doesn't negate the problem.

If a category has no products in it the text shows up as a different colour to those that do have products in them.

I had one product in a category, which has now been sold, but the category still shows as having things in it.

Again, I'm sure I could fix this quite easily by changing the CSS but I'd rather it just displayed the right number!

I have done some split testing, I found that the theory that you are creating buyers urgency by show how limited amount of stock you have left of a certain item doesn't noticably effect sales.

But I have found that the stock # just adds more visual clutter and by removing it, it increases sales by a small percentage.

Maybe just for my niche, but dunno

Honestly not sure. The focus of my site is handmade crafts, sold by various sellers to raise money for charity, so most items are unique.

What it is depends very much on what category it goes under, and because things sell, sometimes a category is empty, making it frustrating for buyers to click through them to find where there are products.

I'll just turn the numbers off for now and adjust the CSS. Maybe I can come up with a better solution in time...
