Lost Homepage Data

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
I have just been amending my homepage in webmaster mode - nothing major just a few words etc.
Pressed 'save'. It took ages to save and then when it updated it had lost all of the data from main body of the page. I am left with header, side columns and featured products.

I have 2 labels above featured products that I know where there before.

lbl_welcome_to
and
txt_welcome.

What I do not know how to do is re-install the main body of the page. I have the data elsewhere but where do I insert it in webmaster mode? There must be a special tab / label but I do not know how to create it.

Any help please?

Re: Lost Homepage Data

use an ftp editor, or download the file, correct and reupload. Much better than trying to edit in webmaster mode.

Re: Lost Homepage Data

Thank you for the reply. I do use Dreamweaver and have the old data stored in there but I need to get webmaster mode back to looking the same as DW for others to use.

I just don't know how to insert the coding. I can not get the pop-up box that lets you input using code / wysiwyg options. Obviously the system has deleted the 'box' I use.
I knew something was wrong as when I updated the html code only some of the amendments went live so webmaster mode was showing the new info but the live webpages were only showing some of the new info.
That was odd so I was tweaking webmaster mode again before i updated html again and that is when the save button lost the data.

Re: Lost Homepage Data

so were you editing a file or a language variable?

Re: Lost Homepage Data

I am no programmer (you may have noticed) so to put it in my language.....
In webmaster mode I click on 'open window' and the homepage appears.
I then normally click on the main body of the test (the bit I want to amend) and a pop-up box appears (called edit label I think) and it gives the option of amending details using a default editor or a wysiwyg editor.

As I no longer have a 'body of text' in my homepage I can not click to get this pop-up box and i do not know how to create one and install it into the page.

I still do not know why all the info was deleted when I pressed 'save'.

Thank you for your help.

sounds like you were editing a language variable, and now it's blank. You'll have to try to work out which one it should be and edit it in the language adrea in the admin

Re: Lost Homepage Data

I am half way going through all the text language viables and it is slow work!
Is there a 'default' filter name that always used by web designers for this facility on the homepage e.g. I have seen txt_about for the about us page.
Thanks.

Do you know/remember what it was that you were editing before you "lost" it?

Re: Lost Homepage Data

I was just amending a few words of text from the main middle section of the homepage. I was using the pop-up box that lets you amend in either default editor or wysiwyg mode.
I pressed saved, it seemed to freeze for ages then lost all the data from that section including the pop-up box facility.

I can show you the code that is currently in webmaster mode for the homepage but I am still trying to find out how to re-insert an 'edit label' to the page so that I can add all the missing coding.
Thank you.
