Detailed images and Cloud Zoom

Hi there

I am interested in using cloud zoom on a 4.7.8 store that I've been working on for a life time (but never managed to finish). It isn't a live site, but I'd like it to be...

On a desktop it works fine and I like how everything looks and behaves, but on a tablet or phone, I'm finding it a bit of a trial to be honest.

On these devices, it positions the 'popup' in an awkward place (on top of the good stuff or off the screen), and it is extremely hard to get rid of. You have to tap somewhere else on the screen that presumably takes focus away from the main image (not everything does) and overall it has a very awkward feel to it.

Is there a way to prevent the zoom on certain devices or dependent on screen size? Or make it an easier experience as a user? I like everything else about it, just not the position and control of the zoom itself.

I can revert back to colorbox, but would prefer not to.

Two things that I should maybe point out.

I don't usually shop on my phone or tablet, so I'm not sure what is acceptable behaviour to people that do. Also, I looked at another X-cart site that uses cloud zoom and behaved as mine does. I don't like it, but it is entirely possible that I'm being a bit precious about it and should just move on.

I'd welcome any suggestions, preferably simple ones! :-)

Many thanks

Welly

You may want to look at the newer version of Cloud Zoom, which has an 'Inner Zoom' option that is mobile friendly. There's a trial version and you can buy a licence for $39. Alternatively, there's Magic Zoom, but it's not as lightweight as CZ.

Many thanks for the pointer.

Have you used it, and is it easy to integrate? I notice that there are plugins for several platforms, but not X-cart.

Yes, I've used it a lot... pretty easy to integrate. If you need help, drop me a line. We've got the 'Package License'.

Many thanks for the pointers on this, Phil.

To be honest, I really struggled with Cloud Zoom and couldn't really see how to get it working (entirely down to my ignorance of x-cart, not a problem with the instructions). After a good while, I tried Magic Zoom and had it working in about 10 minutes.

I sense from your post that you prefer Cloud Zoom. Is there an easy way to install it that I missed, and is it significantly better than Magic Zoom? I don't want to make more work for myself, but I'm interested to know if I should consider making the switch (now or later).

Thanks again for your help.

Welly
