Remember Me by QT or WebsiteCM?

I'm considering either http://www.bcsengineering.com/store/remember-me-login-for-x-cart.html or http://mods.x-cart.com/Remember-Me.html. Seems like QT's is better because it remembers admin and provider, not just customer logins. Feedback?

There are many high quality 3rd party mods available for sure, but I usually recommend my clients to stick with QT mods whenever possible. The less vendors involved, the less places to point the finger.

IT managers have believed in this concept for decades, and nothing has changed.

We are using the WebsiteCM version. I guess I went with it because I was in a hurry, and could download and install it myself, and not have to wait on QT. WebsiteCM's install instructions were very good.

Mike,

Speaking as a 5+ year veteran here, that's not always the best advice...

WebsiteCM has some of the best code and best support in x-cart land.

I would say go with anything Jon codes before dealing with the x-cart mods -- which may or may not work out of the box, and may or may not survive an upgrade. In fact, I can assure you that you should have zero expectations of any mod from QT to survive a version upgrade. Not so with WebsiteCM.

And when (not if) there are issues -- how quickly are you looking to solve your problem? Remember there are 12 hours between Ulyanovsk and Vancouver. Try to solve your problem on the same business day? Depends on your time zone.

So it isn't as black and white as that.

Jeremy, point noted. But, do you have any specific feedback about the OP, Remember Me?

I own it. It works as represented.

Understood Jeremy. Thanks for providing your experienced point of view. My experience has been different, especially when dealing with encrypted mods. I have several recent problems trying to move client's stores, and all the issues we had were related to 3rd party mods. There is no doubt that the more mods you have, the more complicated everything becomes. :)

Re: Remember Me by QT or WebsiteCM?

Remember me functionality for e-commerce admins is probably not the best idea for security purposes.

Our mod also works on both login and registration. Registration is particularly useful since it's usually the first time returning to the store that the person can't remember their login and password.

We've been selling Remember Me since 2005 so it is well tested and proven.

Not all third-party mods are created equal. Many mods and customizations are created without taking into consideration the impact a module may have on other mods, customizations, or functionalities. We make our mods so that as much as possible they are compatible with other third-party mods and with other x-cart modules, and should issues arise we don't simply tell you that other mods are the problem and you need to uninstall them.

Having worked on x-cart for a decade now, I feel I can confidently say I code better than most if not all Qualiteam developers.

Why?

Because it makes it very easy for somebody to access your admin by accessing your work station and/or by taking your computer. Best to login each time if you ask me.
