Meta tags for Product pages

I've created a free mod on my site to do the following:

Quote:

This mod takes your product title, breaks it up into keywords and puts it in your keyword meta tag. Also will take your long or short description of your product and will put it into your description meta tag.

Also features an admin interface to add keywords to the end of every product's keywords. For example, add your site name to every product, general keywords for the site, etc.

Example given for 3.5.x but can be applied to other X-cart versions.

I'd post the instructions here, but would probably be easier to explain by downloading the zip on my site and reading the instructions and files in it. Requires 2 file modifications.

Hope this helps!

Hey Carrie, looks like a great mod! I've been asking about product-specific meta tags forever, although it seems to be falling on deaf ears. It may not make a huge SEO difference, but every little bit helps! Now, one small issue, any chance of posting a link to the file directly instead of having to go through the checkout process? :) Thanks!

Padraic,

All you need to provide is a valid email address and use check or money order for payment method. You don't have to put real information in the other fields. I do this to help me determine what free mods are valuable, and other statistical reasons. I will never contact you via that email address unless you sign up for my monthly newsletter.

I've considered just linking to the zips, but this helps me help you guys better. :)

Hope that makes sense!

Got it :) Just downloaded it, looks great! Thanks again!

No problem! I see now that it was you that made the last "purchase." I really don't pay attention to who gets the free orders. Just run reports on products ordered, etc.

Just remember the example is for 3.5.x I haven't had time to make examples for other versions yet.

Thanks! I'll shoehorn it into 4.0.6 somehow :) Ever tried a mod that would add actual title, keyword and description tags to products? I would just love to be able to import all of that stuff via CSV. If META tags can be added to categories, I'm sure it can be done for products as well. Thanks again!

:?: You lost me there the meta tags are made out of the name of your Items and the name of your Items can be imported via CVS.

Kind regards,
Ricky

Ricky,

I think he meant he would like to specify himself meta information for each product (rather than have it auto generated) and have it easily populated using a CVS import. I think this is a great idea. I'll put it on my project list, but I'm swamped right now, so I don't think I'll be able to get to it for atleast a month.

I think what would be best, is to combine the free mod with this proposed mod. That way if you wanted to use the default generated keywords and description from the free mod you could, or for special products, you could put up your own specifications.

Keep the ideas rolling. That's how we created the Customer Rewards Mod which everyone seems to be very pleased with.

Balinor, did you have to do a lot of shoehorning? What changes did you have to make to let it work on 4.0.6?

balinor 11-17-2004 03:31 AM

Still working on it! :D
