maeketing manager

Has anyone tried to use marketing manager (fire tank software)on xcart 4.1.9? If so did you have any trouble? We bought it for version 4.1.3 and assumed it would be a free update when xcart went stable but that isnt the case, Had we known we would have waited till it went stable. We would appreciate any tips if you found a way to make it work. We have reinstalled it several times with no luck. Its so easy to install that I know we did it correctly so I am starting to wonder if the stupid thing only allows 1 install although I think its just something minor with the different version of xcart.

Sure about that?
Permissions are an important part of the install. Easy to miss one. Double check your permisisons. It's working great with 4.1.9 - but to be honest, once I forgot to reset permissions after a restore and I had to go look up the install instructions to get it working.

Re: maeketing manager

Yeah, I am pretty sure as I checked them and reset them a 100 times according to this:

You will need to set the following file permissions to the files and folders you uploaded, please do this carefully.

Set Read / Write / Execute (chmod 0777) permissions to the folders

mm_files/
mm_files/mailtemplates,
mm_files/mailtemplates/html
mm_files/mailtemplates/plain
mm_files/ebaytemplates (if you do not have this folder ignore this)

Set ALL the files contained inside mm_files to 0666 (read/write)

Set Read/Write (chmod 0666) permissions to ALL individual files contained inside

mm_files/mailtemplates/html
mm_files/mailtemplates/plain
mm_files/ebaytemplates (if you do not have this folder ignore this)

Set Read / Execute (chmod 0755) permissions to

mm_files/mm_mail.pl

Set Read / Write (chmod 0666) permissions to

Whats weird is that I am using the same files as I simply made a folder on my server and moved the entire contents of my site into this folder and then installed x-cart 4.1.9 with a different database name so that if 4.1.9 didnt seem like it was going to work out I could just delete all the new files and move the old files back to the main directory and be back in business with 4.1.3. Anyway, after that I moved all the marketing manager files from the old site to the new and reset all permissions and updated the config with the new database info. So it should work but doesnt. So I think maybe some files got corrupted during the move so I download all these files that I have moved to my hard drive and then upload them back to the old 4.1.3 install thats in that folder I made and change that database info back to the old database and then point my browser to the folder with the old site and fire up marketing manager and it works perfectly. Therefor, the files cant be corrupted since they still work on the old site.

I have a backup on my hard drive from march so I decided to upload those files and try them but that didnt change a thing either.

Makes no sense to me. The same process worked perfectly with safety net, bcs, and shipping per product mods.

Re: maeketing manager

the software may be encrypted/protected to only work on a single domain. Did your domain change?

maxamdiscounts 11-17-2007 02:44 PM

Re: maeketing manager

Its the same domain.
It could be something goofy with the encrypted license though. As it never worked correctly from the beginning. They sent me a couple of files to make it work before. Thats one of the reasons I kept all the old files because some had changed and they never gave me an updated install package.

else, something has changed in x-cart 4.1.3 to 4.1.9

cant really diagnose it very well since the files are encrypted.

I grow extremely tired of jacking with it and Im not spending another 200.00 on a incremental upgrade so I think I will just make my own. I may post another thread for those interested in helping develop it and make it open source. It really wouldnt be that hard as most of its just pulling info from whats already in the database and dsisplaying it. Ill most likely start with the newsletter sender as thats what I use the most and then slowly expand from there. It would actually be pretty cool if others help out and add to it.

We're using x-cart 4.1.7 and have noticed some problems with MM, specifically in the follow users function. It will not display the contents of the users cart at all. Not sure if this is a recent problem or if it has been that way since the upgrade.

I have never seen that, since day 1 (originally installed into 4.1.6).

Should this be a feature?

This has always been a feature. It's under Website Tracking/Traffic Monitor live users on site & Last 24 Hours Stats/under current users (in last 5 minutes)/Follow Users

Re: maeketing manager

You know, I rarely used the floow user feature... but now that you mention it, my version of MMP does not show any items added to cart... if a test user adds soemthing to cart, follow user shows "cart is empty".

Hmm... time to open a ticket. This functionality has never been in MMP for me, since version 4.1.6

thanks for pointing it out.

I have, but that's not the issue... Firetank support answered me and told me that the CONTENTS of the customer's cart is NOT going to be visible using "follow user.." BUT -- I just tested again on a different computerusing 2 browsers, and it TRACKS the cart contents... so this must be a browser issue. I'll do more research on this.

Re: maeketing manager

That part has always been kind of buggy. I have never tested it with different browsers though. I almost always use Internet Explorer and some times it works and some times not. I notice when things are not working correctly you get strange urls in the address bar.

Example: my newsletter section doesnt work and in the address bar I have:

http://www.insanediscounts.com/admin/mm_index.php?mod=e01

The last part =e01 shouldnt be visible

so look for stuff like that on parts that dont work correctly. Ofcourse the file e01 is encoded so you cant diagnose it past that. Thats been our problem the entire time that these numbers appear on parts not working. They gave us new copies of those files for the first 3 months but apparently there is some kind of bug in the encoding that breaks the script.

Maybe I just got a bad script or something.
I really like the software when it works though.

On the plus side, I have almost completed my newsletter mod. It is currently connecting to the x-cart database and getting the newsletter subscription emails and sending in html. I should finish it soon and then decide what to add next.

Anyway , sounds like its working pretty good for you for the most part besides the minor cart thing which is no big deal since you can get it to work in another browser.

It's not a browser issue, it's your PHP session ID is tagged onto the URL, as a security default you should really have this turned off on your website. If you look at your URLS when you are logged in and viewing your cart chances are you have this visible.

I won't go into detail about why it should be turned off, but in general your x-cart sites should never show this or allow linking to it, earlier versions of PHP defaulted to showing this.

Traffic monitor is being passed this information to it by the server and will follow exactly what it is being given.

In your .htaccess file in the root of your site add the line

For a .htaccess file you should add the following line:

php_flag session.use_trans_sid off

Hi Groovico -- thanks for the answer -- BUT there is no session ID visible in my URLs. I have almost the latest php version 5.2.4.

I wonder if the session ID is used by "remember anonymous carts" ?

I'll ask Jon.

I'm putting out a fire right now and will address this next.

PS -- THANK YOU for the INCREDIBLE support -- I just bought another one of your mods and you turned it around in minutes. And Kurt answered a question at 2am EST on saturday night/sunday morning. You guys rock!

Thanks carpeperdiem for the compliment we try do our best, and would you believe Kurt is actually away on vacation and still doing tickets!

I'm curious on the cart issue, can you PM me the site link please along with details on the type of server the site is running on.

The session ID has always been the main culprit for exposing the cart contents in traffic monitors follow customer as it technically was hijacking the session in the same fashion as copying the complete URL and giving it to someone would do.

This shouldn't matter:

from my phpinfo:

session.use_trans_sid is set to 0 for local and master

I sent you a PM. Thanks...

Ok, did that and verified it with phpinfo. The really odd thing is that it was working right after I did that on 11/25, but today it has stopped again.

Any other ideas?

On Edit:

Just to let you know, we are using Opera and Firefox on Macs (OS X 10.4). Also, Michelle informs me that it seems to always log her out when she does the follow user option.

How does the product perform speed wise? We had the sales-n-stats for about a month before we had to nuke it because of the delays it added to the add to cart time (5-6 seconds some times). Now we are just using logs to track, I need something more that wont slow the site down. Will this product work for that?

We had the Marketing Manager reinstalled for our upgrade from 4.0.13 to 4.1.9 and it works fine. It took a couple of times to get it right (on our side), but thanks to Kurt and his great support, it works beautifully now.

Hi Herb,

Marketing Manager due to the way it's built won't slow down your site. Many of the reports work independantly of the tracking elements. And the traffic monitor module for Marketing Manager is kept very light.

You can see a demo of Marketing Manager online on our site http://www.firetanksoftware.com by clicking the marketing manager demo link.
