Hi David,

You won't really need to know very much php to customze. You should familiariz yourself with Smarty, which is the templating system, in combination with html is what is used by X-cart.

You can find out more about Smarty here:

http://smarty.php.net/

Hope that helps!

i know but i do want to learn how to hack it up if i need to

triple knockout girl,
im lost with smarty. im not so smart. how the hell do you use it? and why would i need to? cant i just edit the tpl and css files myself? smarty gets rave reviews but i dont know what to do once i download it. also, i do think it comes installed with x-cart, which i purchased not too long ago, so i dont think i have to install it.

anyways, im looking to learn a bit of php scripting, can anyone suggest a good book?

you'll find alot of info on "hacking it" in these fourms... but it takes alot of practice, patience, and perseverance. it takes a while to get used to the way x-cart does templates, then how smarty works, then php, then how to make it all glide like butta'. But you'll get it, but don't expect to learn it overnight ;) Ease in, and keep at it, and it eventually all starts to click. It still doesn't all click for me, but it's been a slow process and I'm getting there.
