We are planning to remove .html suffix in the new upcoming 54 release.

this is the major change, unfortunately, it is impossible to release it the minor improvements.

That's great news! Out of curiosity, is there any rough estimate for when that release will be available? (Understanding that such an estimate is not a commitment)

Are you planning to remove it or make it an option? It has to be an option otherwise it's moving from one forced suffix to another which is really not good.
