Upgrade from 5.2.15 to 5.3.1 possible?

We are in the process of planning an upgrade of our current X-Cart environment (we host ourselves)

We currently run 5.2.15. We are shooting to upgrade to 5.3.1.

Apologies if my search capabilities are inferior but I cannot seem to find information, documentation, wiki, etc. on how this is done.

If found this ...
http://devs.x-cart.com/en/migration_guides/updating_modules_from_5.2_to_5.3_branch.html#templ ate-changes

Are these instructions for 5.2.17 to 5.3.1?

Do we upgrade from 5.2.15 to 5.2.17, which then allows us to upgrade from 5.2.17 to 5.3.1?

Is it possible for me to install stock 5.3.1 then migrate my 5.2.15 database? Is this done via Imports? For this, I am concerned about preserving customer and order information.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Upgrade from 5.2.15 to 5.3.1 possible?

In order to upgrade to 5.3.x you should upgrade to the most recent 5.2.x version first.

If you have custom modules (or tweaks done to Custom Skin module), you may have to adapt these modules manually (as the upgrade routine doesn't know how to do it automatically). The mentioned link explains how you can convert custom .tpl templates to the new Twig format used in 5.3.x. But you may have to adapt the PHP source code as well (in case of custom modules).

Before upgrading your store please create a full backup copy including the MySQL database and all files. Then deploy this backup on a local computer and try the upgrade there first. If everything goes well, you may upgrade the "live" store on your server. And if something goes wrong this time, you always can recover your store from the backup.

The built-in upgrade routine does the migration. You should not do it manually.

I was ready to work on that upgrade to 5.3 from 5.2.15 and it took me to 5.2.17 without issue.

However, it did not give me an option to upgrade to 5.3 after that, is there a manual push to upgrade from there or will it just prompt me in a a few days to do so?

Thanks!

All of your modules must be upgraded to the latest versions as well or it won't offer you the option to upgrade to 5.3. I had an older version of the Wishlist module installed and as soon as I upgraded that, 5.3 upgrade became available.

I had just checked our upgrade and it looks like I had it updated/upgrade everything that needed it.

There currently isn't a notice to update or upgrade any module so that's why I was wondering if it just automatically checks in 24 hours to notify or if there was a manual push otherwise.

Thanks for the heads up, will check it again tomorrow to see!

Re: Upgrade from 5.2.15 to 5.3.1 possible?

On our development store I went from 5.2.17 to 5.3.1.3 and it went smoothly, this actually shocked me that it would go to a whole new version without breaking. I would recommend you go to 5.2.17 (or .18 if that comes out, which I believe it is coming out soon) before going to 5.3.1.3.

Note that there is one bug in 5.3.1.3 having to do with the order tracking numbers. Outside of that bug, I didn't see any other problems.

Be sure to backup EVERYTHING before you do anything though!

X-Cart 5.3 will be available to all X-Cart users with the release of the 5.3.1.4 version.
At the moment it is available to a limited number of user who opted to participate in testing dev releases.
