AMP HTML and XC5

Has anybody (XC Team members or other customers) implemented AMP HTML within XC5 yet?

We've moved on from our previous XC4 setup, so we're asking specifically for XC5 only

It all started here: https://googleblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/introducing-accelerated-mobile-pages.html and here's the project: https://www.ampproject.org/ and finally, how to get involved is right here: https://www.ampproject.org/docs/get_started/about-amp.html There are additional links within the first two links.

We think it maybe straightforward to add extra coding within XC5 static pages, but the category pages and products we're not so sure about...

You could have just said "no, not yet, but it's being thought about. Why not vote for the improvement here:" etc :D/ Anyway, it's pretty clear now then. No, the XC5 Team haven't tried to use it and no, no forum members have tried to use it (so far). Okay, we'll sort an improvement suggestion out shortly. Thank You for responding..

@Triple A Racing

Oddly I am looking into this (when I get the time and brain space!) but for x-cart 4.6 > 4.7.

I will report back in due course.

Must admit I laughed out loud at your response - very dry - love it! Mancunion humour at its best.

Kind regards

ITVV

You're right. My message misses these words :-)

The Google Trojan Horse is definitely on it's way

An article posted a few month ago now still makes things much clearer the the Google intro stuff: http://www.copyblogger.com/google-amp/ :D/

Trying the g.co/ampdemo test on a mobile deice, which is explained and referred to in this article, with news and/other items is indeed a big eye opener. Amp is very, very fast by comparison. Another reference within this article, is the one to Google’s Mobile Update aka “Mobilegeddon” which came in last year. This is one of the main reasons we switched to XC5. We're still very glad we did switch, but AMP is going way beyond this now.... Hopefully XC5.3.3.* or maybe 5.3.4.* will fully include AMP compliance as other e-commerce suppliers will definitely be doing so. Mobile device purchases are greater than desktop purchases in the UK and have been since Q1 2015... In other countries, this share is even bigger due to different cultures / history, hence Google's Trojan Horse approach?

There are corporate big name supporters and lot's of opposing complainers, so it's a bit like #Brexit currently... but it's definitely coming, it's in GitHub, it already works very, very well, it is massively faster on mobile devices and for anybody who hasn't voted on the link provided by Qualiteam earlier: http://ideas.x-cart.com/forums/229428/suggestions/12955668 (which is nearly everybody so far...8O ) It's a good time to add your vote / support now, as it appears that this will make a big difference to people's acceptance and usage of the mobile version of your store...

Accelerated mobile pages

Always looking for faster loading and better ranking in google.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are web pages designed according to an open source specification. Validated AMP pages are cached in Google's AMP cache, which allows them to be served even more quickly.

Re: Accelerated mobile pages

AMP has been discussed before: https://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=73673 and then again recently here: https://forum.x-cart.com/showthread.php?t=75011&page=2

Out of interest, we created an AMP page (hosted on the same domain, but not part of our XC5 store). It's massively faster than XC5 every single time, but it's static content only so it doesn't have any e-comerce functionality other than links to the XC5 store. It's therefore, not a like for like response time test. We thought that an XC5 AMP module (for use on XC5 static pages etc) would still be a very good idea at this stage (Wordpress mimic). Future 100% AMP XC5 stores we can't see happening though...

Re: AMP HTML and XC5

FYI: I've merged two of the three forum threads to keep the discussion in a single place. The second link is on a different topic, I think (so I left it in its own thread).

Re: AMP HTML and XC5

AMP is for static content only. At the moment we do not see how to use this technology for a dynamic e-commerce store.

A static page is a good idea, but it is subsequent pages. If you need robust CMS solution - we recommend integrating X-Cart with WordPress (it can be done easily via special addon) wich will support AMP
