Category Import bug
https://bugtracker.qtmsoft.com/view.php?id=43685
X-cart 5.1.5 bug. Create categories, export them, delete them, and then import. CleanURLs and Bread crumb structure is messed up. http://youtu.be/z_SDU2o4woE - Video demonstration. Just wanted to make sure this was spotted quickly. Happens with any imported categories as far as I know. I have been writing a python script that creates categories.csv files automatically, and noticed that all my imported categories had the wrong path info. Working in Windows 7. Anyone else reproduce or experience this problem? |
Re: Category Import bug
Thank you Mike for report, we will look into it!

Re: Category Import bug
I'm curious if you have any news about this bug, or it has been verified by the team. I mentioned it in a blog post on my new site: http://xcartguru.com/re-branding-and-a-bug-in-our-beloved-x-cart/ and I am wondering if there is a solution yet?
I had a client call me who was experiencing this very problem today. Also made an updated video showing the exact problem on a linux box hosted by TSS. previously I thought it might be just a Windows specific problem. |
Re: Category Import bug
Hi Mike,
Thank you for the visual demonstration of "catching the bug", it's very clear and helpful. This bug has a "major" status which means it will be included into the nearest release - v.5.1.6. |
Re: Category Import bug
Was this issue actually fixed in X-cart 5.1.6? I upgraded from 5.1.5 to 5.1.6 today and my store is still experiencing very weird breadcrumbs.

As I can see, the bug is marked as fixed. Is it possible that you imported the data before the store was upgraded? |
Re: Category Import bug
Hi Brian!
I just tested Mike's instruction on my 5.1.6 and it works properly. Could you please send me your CSV file that causes the problems on your installation? Thank you. Tony. |
Re: Category Import bug
Ksenia and Tony,
I was afraid someone was going to say that I would have to re-import. Much easier said than done. With about 70 categories and about 1500 products, I am at about 7 hours into working on this. A few mistakes and one restart did not help, but it took some working with this issue to fully understand what I needed to do. At first I only exported the products and re-imported them. No luck. After restoring the store, I tried deleting and re-importing just the categories. While this did fix the basic issue, we then had 1500 products and 70 categories with nothing in them. Re-importing the products is quite a hassle and generates duplicates. Mainly due to many of our SKU's having leading zeros and Excel not handling this well. Additionally it takes forever to delete any significant amount of categories or products in xc5 and when you do, the images are deleted. They must be re-uploaded. Been chasing my tail all day. However, I can confirm that if you take the time to delete everything, manually go through the .csv files to fix category errors and category path errors, and re-import, the issue is fixed. We still have an issue with our Product Filter not triggering after re-importing everything (attributes and product attributes included), but this is minor by comparison. |
Re: Category Import bug
I am so glad this has been resolved! Well done XC5 team, and well done Brian!

Re: Category Import bug
So how do you fix this problem if you already have it messed up? I deleted all my categories and made new ones and the breadcrumbs are all screwed up. Will reimporting all my products fix this? They aren't even linked to categories at all.

Basically yes, but you will need to do some work before re-importing the products. Export your products, download the products.csv file, and open it on your computer. In the column "categories" you should see all of the weird category paths. You will need to fix these to match you new categories and re-import. If using Excel or something similar, the Find and Replace function will save some time. Be careful though, some of ours were so convoluted we Found and Replaced some things we didn't want to even though I was searching for very specific strings of characters. You would have to do the same thing with your categories by exporting categories.csv and correcting entries in the "path" column, but it sounds like you deleted all categories and recreated so this should not apply. You may want to do a backup if you haven't already. Luckily I did and it came in handy. Restored images from it once and the whole store another time. |

Thanks... none of my products are linked to any categories right now so I wouldn't think it would show anything in that column on the .csv but I will check it out. I honestly am thinking about just hiding the breadcrumbs completely with the custom CSS as my dropdown menus on my nav bar makes them not necessary. EDIT: Mine are all fixed... I guess I just had to refresh 170 times and wait an hour after deleting and remaking all the categories. |
