X-Cart 5.0.11 is released
 

Hi guys!

Today is the first minor release of X-Cart 5 after launch and I am very proud to describe what we have during this month.

New payment gateways

• Stripe
• SagePay

Both payment methods are available in Mobile and Business packages.


New core modules

• Add to Cart Popup. Now you can cross-sell products after customer adds something to their cart. Enjoy the increase of your average revenue per user!
• Product Reviews. Now your customers can give you and other customers feedback about your products. Customers are more likely to buy a product that already has been rated and this module will help you with increasing conversion rates.
• Related products. Now you can specify related products for your goods and suggest customers what they also might want to buy next. Overall, it will increase your average revenue per user.

Add to cart popup is available in Mobile and Business editions. Product reviews and Related products are available in Business edition only.

New paid modules
We released several paid add-ons that are not included into any package and you can use it on any edition: Mobile and Business.

• Abandoned Cart Reminder. Basically, this is the same module as we have been having for X-Cart 4. It recovers unpaid transactions. You are setting it up one time and then amount of your orders will increase with no extra work. It costs $165.
• Banner System. If you want to place banners here and there, this module is for you. Decorate your store with different kinds of banners and make your customers be pleased with your new design. It costs $149.
• Product feeds. Upload your products to different marketplaces like Google Shipping, Nextag, etc and get more clients to your store. As as abandoned cart reminder, you are setting it up one time and then constantly get new visitors to your shop. Now it supports the following marketplaces:
  - Google Shopping
  - eBay e-Commerce Network (shopping.com)
  - Nextag
  - Pricegrabber
  - Shopzilla
  
  and our developers are going to extend this list in the future. The module costs $99.

Third-party modules
We really like that 3rd party developers were encouraged by X-Cart 5 release and started writing modules for X-Cart 5 straight away. During last month our friends released:

• Gift certificates by Vladimir Serov. Previously, this module worked with X-Cart Next only. Now it is compatible with X-Cart 5.
• Fresh Green free template by Perception System. We are really thankful to these guys, especially for the fact that they released free template. Check this out! It is in nice fresh green colors!

Improvements
Besides these modules, we implemented quite a lot of smaller improvements:

• Require to change password on next log in option was added to user profiles. Thank you @cflsystems for the suggestion
• Now customer is asked whether they would like to proceed to checkout as an existing or guest user? Thank you guys for this thread: http://forum.x-cart.com/showpost.php?p=366983&postcount=22
• We have improved how customer returns from payment gateway side, when they click Cancel button there. Now they will receive a meaningful popup, instead of warning
• Now admin can set up position of products in the category
• We have improved the interface how customer can choose between ways products are sorted on product lists.

How do I upgrade?
First of all, all X-Cart 5 installations will receive an invitation to upgrade during next 5 days. If you did not receive it right now, do not worry, you will get it during this week.

Great work.

I noticed you have plans for a responsive template and multicurrency. Are these planned for next major version? Do you have a timescale?

I would likely go with xcart 5 for running a store with these in place. Especially as you have now added Related products, reviews and add-to-cart popup.

Suggestion:

In products list, instead of showing all products in the page showing (0 reviews) if there are none, to only display reviews information in products list if there are reviews or at least have an option to decide that. Because this saves space and customers have no need to see 50 products all saying 0 reviews in 1 page. Amazon for example does not list (0 reviews) text on product search pages. On the product page it could be like "be the first to review this". But to explain (0 reviews) on thumbnail page is pointless.

Another improvment could be to add company logo to temporarily closed page; I notied when you activate a module, the shop closes, but the customer cannot see the brand logo just some simple text, although I like the cog wheel turning graphic.

Hello Tony,

I have the message but it will not complete due to Product Feeds that I'm trialling.

I have tried on 3 different occasions, it lists all the modules/extensions installed then goes through the motions then I get a 500 error but I think this is X-Carts server as my server shows no errors. It states that Product Feeds not downloaded.

Nothing gets upgraded.

Any advice please (I have sent an email to support already so should have answer tomorrow I hope) thought I'd ask after seeing this post.

Hello Kevin,

I believe you see this error because the Product Feeds module has been released officially, and now the server do all the license checks before allowing you to download updates. Since you never purchased the Product Feeds module license, the server declines your upgrade request.

Uninstall the Product Feeds Beta and try the upgrade link once again.

I will check with the XC5 dev team if there is a way for you to beta test the module and reply you through the HelpDesk system.

Not via default import script, sorry. I will collect more info about what else our customers want to import and we will extend our import facility in the future.

In my X-Cart Business 5.0.11 "Product reviews" module settings, there is only 2 options, All Users, or Registered users, no third who purchased product.

One other thing, I am not sure I would call it a bug, but a necessary improvement/bug.

The spacing on the homepage is blank for the breadcrumbs, I think there should be no <div id"breadcrumbs></div> on the homepage, because it is empty and taking the space at the top of the page.

There are major display bugs in the product image, on the product page. And major improvements required.

If you change the default size of the product image to a bigger size, the page simply breaks.

Default product image is a small 300px which is barely bigger than a thumbnail. Worse, the store will generate a poorer quality product image if you upload a larger size, without any apparant option for it not to do that to the main product image. Only detailed image is not reduced in quality. Therefore your product image looks second rate, when you might want a high-quality image. The css could easily have a max-height setting, like in XC4

Its set at 300px 300px by default as the max size. However the option is useless because in order to make it bigger, the page will all fail as the elements appear hardcoded with widths and heights relating to 300px 300px. So I will need to change the css to overwrite each css class including .product-photo and .product-details-info otherwise the image will overlap the detailed images, the arrow navigation and other product content.

The re-size product image only appears to work when there are detailed images. I have cleared the cache on the store, and despite changing the default width and height to 500px, the store is hardcoded with 330px 330px, even though the image size on both product 1 and product 2 is 500px width and height original size. But only the product with detailed images shows the 500px product image, but even with the detailed images product page, there is a conflict as the hardcoded fixed width first appears and then the size setting you choose suddenly appears and jumps over the previous image/ re-sizes.

This needs to be fixed. Product image sells to the customer and although the detailed images are good, the setting for changing the size of the image does not work and there is no option to avoid downgrading the image quality. Also you have not kept the original-filename.jpg, so all of the google image seo will be lost. Instead when resizing the image, you rename my seo image which had been done for all the products. Now it is simply know as productid.jpg, which is almost impossible for google to index

This is the most important page in the whole cart as it is selling the product to the customer, everything follows around this.

Bug: there is no way to delete a category image. The only option is to replace it. On the product page, it is possible to delete the product image, but not for categories? why is that?

Bug: rating product on add-to-cart pop-up. When you hover to rate a product, it shows only half of the dialog box info which is cut off.

Suggestion:

In a lot of the product settings, you can choose whether to display in the main area or the sidebar. How about a setting to display the categories in the sidebar, or in the main-menu links at the top.

1st, thanks for arranging temporary licence for Product Feeds.

I have tried to upgrade but I'm left with Closed for Maintenance.

It came with 500 server fault, I selected back in browser and it said upgrade failled, I tried again and got same response so tried to refresh browser then it says Closed for maintenance.

Last week I tried to disable product feed and got the same, backing out got me working again. I tried to upgrade but had the same as today but that day I just restored the server to day before.

Bug: after you have added a product to cart, in search drop-down, if you select the same product by search, it informs you to "add-more" as the product is in your cart, however on product page and pop-up even though it reads this product is already in your cart, the cart button still reads add-to-cart, instead of add-more.

Bug: When I checked "show only in stock items" and updated the page. I was left with products which were "not in stock". The products were coming soon with 0 quantity available. Not sure what the function is of this feature but I expected the coming soon products to be eliminated.

Bug: There is a conflict in your method for the filter products.

Lets say you have 3 products between $1-$20. The price bar will reflect this for these 3 products, because these are the only 3 products available. This is correct.

In the same filter page, you list manufacturers which are not associated with any of the 3 products listed. Therefore they are 0-leads and will return an Oops error page when you select them. It is assumed by your price $1-$20 that you are filtering the current products, so why list other product attributes which are not these 3 products? Is this a global setting? In any case its a bug because only the products in question in view should be referenced in the filter modules, regardless of global or not. because you are not filtering anything and because prices are also a global setting.

If you have a global attribute, you must be able to filter by it even though some product may not have it specified. However, I would agree that you should have had an option "Unspecified" in this case.

As for more sophisticated solution, when product filter only contains available options for the product that were already filtered (i.e. do not allow to filter by manufacturer those 3 products), I agree, it is a great suggestion, but it will require Product filter rework. Anyway, I will add it to our TODO list.

We are planning to implement that even if you define one image, it will be displayed in high quality.


At early stage our assumption regarding image size was that the image size is dictated by the theme and apparently this is wrong assumption. I will discuss with the team what we can do in this sense.
