About Website speed
Hello,
Need a little help, whenever I tried to access my website, some time it take 15 seconds to load but, I get on the site and click on any item, it moved fast. Is the problem with my hosting company, that's why its slow to enter the website? Any help will be much appreciated. Tom |
Re: About Website speed
Sounds like it is your server but you will need to do some testing. What's your url? You can use tools like Pingdom, Loads.in and Loadimpact.com. Using a CDN network helps speed up your site.

Re: About Website speed
OK first thing I see is lots of CSS files being called. Do you have these 3 settings ticked in the general settings page?
Use speed-up tool for Javascript Use speed-up tool for CSS Do not check if templates are changed (Smarty compile_check). |
Re: About Website speed
For SEO purposes I would enable clean URLs too.

Re: About Website speed
Once you have done that I would also look at using MaxCDN or similar to pull images, JS and CSS. I use them and are cheap. I have set up 4 pull zones for each of the sections you can link.

Re: About Website speed
OK that's getting better. Can you temporarily remove/disable you badges below the footer and also you chat software. It looks like they are not helping load time. So that's next to test.

Re: About Website speed
ok. I'll do that right now.

Re: About Website speed
That has made a dramatic difference. Look up your site now on http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/. You should see in the history the previous ones I ran.
I think those type of badges are over rated. If you do want them then maybe host that on a static page and just use a flat image to link to the static page in your footer. Try putting the chat back on and test again. I am off at 4.30pm GMT but I can look again in the morning. I would have a read up on MaxCDN as I think that will have a positive effect on your site. You are currently downloading about 40 images on your homepage that all come from the same server as the load of your actual code. Get those pulling from a CDN and you will see an increase in speed. Made a huge difference on mine. Also invest in some credit at loadimpact.com that will show how good your server is and how many people can be on your site at anyone time before page speed plummets. Set it from a local server and about 200 users to get a good indicator. |
