Nice Alexander! Is there an option for text message alerts (this would be more immediate than email fro many people).

David, you could use your cell phone provider's email to sms system. You can send emails to xxxxxx@vtext.com and you get that as text message.

xxxxxx would be your phone number and @vtext.com is the address verizon provides.
You would just need to ask your cell phone provider which address to use to receive emal as text

Thank you for your answer, Emerson, much appreciated! If you don't mind I'll add it to the FAQ section of X-Monitoring manual.

David, when you get an appropriate email address you should just specify it on the X-Monitoring module configuration page.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched!

Hi Rocky,

Sure that would be fine :)

I dont know how accurate this list is but it is a good guideline on how to use email to sms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SMS_gateways

Asking your cell provider would be the sure bet.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched!

Duh, Well I guess sometimes I ask before I think.

That is an excellent solution. Thank you Emerson and Alexander.

Do you guys plan on adding any other features? Not sure what I would want, but any stats would be great. Just curious.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched!

When you say "monitoring" are you referring to just a ping check, an HTML check, a MySQL check, a specific text check or combination of all of the above? Also, how often are the checks and how are they being performed - server side push, client side request? How might this affect site performance or potential firewall blocks due to too many checks within a period? How often are the checks? Every Minute, 5 minutes, hour? "periodic" is too vague of an answer.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched!

actualy, it looks like the time interval is answered on the product description page - http://www.x-cart.com/extensions/modules/monitoring.html (every 15 minutes for a home page check and every 5 minutes for ping and HTTP response)

Yes sure, we are definitely planning to grow up and implement new features. So any suggestions are welcome. Have you got one? Feel free to post it here and we will consider adding it to X-Monitoring.

As far as web server availability is concerned, yes it's on a ping check level. As for the X-Cart, it's a combination of aforementioned methods. X-Monitoring checks for PHP, SQL, HTML, specific text error messages on X-Cart home page.

Regarding the intervals, as I can see you've already found an answer according to your last message.

Oh, I forgot to answer the most important part (sorry, it's late evening here).

One of advantages of this extension is that it performs a client side request which doesn't affect store performance.
The X-Monitoring module makes a request and all other operations are performed on our server. In other words it doesn't load the server where X-Cart is installed and just respond with a result generated on our side.

Apologies for sidetracking the thread but would there ever be a function / module similar to the above to restore or revert changes after a data import?

Despise warning users to backup first it's amazing how many don't and this could be a great feature.

This module looks great BTW - keep them coming.

Why not? Thank you for the suggestion, we will contemplate this idea.

Thanks, could you please be more specific on this feature.

What information exactly should be backed up before import? A complete DB backup or only products data?

Hi mixon,

Thanks for the below and in my opinion whilst it would be ideal to have a full database backup - some users can have large databases which may introduce unnecessary delays in the import process. If the option could be available in the configuration of this element it would be good.

Ideally the feature would work like this.

1. User initiates an update via the import csv format.
2. Software reads the header of the import file and backs up that data (i.e if we see PRODUCT_OPTIONS in the header, then this data is backup up prior to the import taking place).
3. Import process runs and makes relevant changes in the database.
4. Import summary is presented with the option to view the changes made (so compares changes to recently made backup)
5. Should the result be different to the anticipated outcome, a revert option is available to simply restore the data to it's pre-import status.

It may also be an option to offer the revert feature on a line by line basis (via a check box if you wish to only revert a few items) or a 'full revert' which takes everything back to the pre-import stage.

Hope this makes sense and thanks for considering this.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

So I installed XC 4.6.0 few days ago for testing purposes. X-Monitoring modules was active after installation (or maybe I turned it on/off for testing). Since then I am getting an email every day that the X-Monitoring service cannot connect to the module....

----------------------------------------
Dear Customer,

X-Monitoring service failed to connect to X-Monitoring
module:

* Store URL: http://192.168.0.50/XXXXX/xcart460

Please make sure the X-Monitoring module is enabled and
configured properly.

*
http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:X-Monitoring

X-Monitoring Team.

----------------------------------------

Yes - it cannot connect since this is first on internal network, I don't have X-Monitoring account and the service is OFF...
This is clearly a bug. Does it mean that if I want to just try the service and don't find it useful and turn the module off I have to receive this email all the time? I understand this is part of what the module does - to inform of issues with the site - but this email doesn't tell me there is a problem with the site but that it cannot connect with the module. Well maybe this was my intention - to not use the service. Anyone thought of that? I have no way of turning this emails off....

mixon 06-17-2013 08:41 PM

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

Do you mean that you have disabled the module in X-Cart admin backend and still get email notifications? If so, then yes it looks like a bug. I'll check it and get back to you soon.

cflsystems 06-17-2013 09:03 PM

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

When you turn on/off the X-Monitoring module in your X-Cart admin back-end, our X-Monitoring server receives a signal to start/stop monitoring of the store's web-site correspondingly.

I have manually changed the settings on our X-Monitoring server, so to stop monitoring your web-site.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

You know this is just an internal copy and even if service is on it will not be able to monitor it and the connection to outside world is limited... I still receive the emails from the service but maybe you just stopped it from your server...

Anyway I though reporting it so you guys can check if it is a bug or not with the service or XC version. In the next few days I may again switch it on/off just to see what happens and if it will turn it on/off on your side

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

Ok I will. Thanks

I know this may not be a solution for everyone but why not just disallow all internal IP's on your end so the service doesn't serve them?

The X-Monitoring module is built-in to X-Cart versions 4.5.3 and newer, so it can not be un-installed.

We are working on resolving the email notification issue.

Meantime, we have made additional changes in the monitoring service configuration related to your web-site, it should stop sending emails now.

Please let us know should any issues still exist.

cflsystems 07-07-2013 10:59 PM

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

By the way I still get them. Had one yesterday.

You should really make the service to ignore internal network IPs.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

Dear Steve,

As a temp solution, we have made some extra/manual changes in the monitoring service configuration related to this web-site:

192.168.0.50

Now, it should stop sending emails related to this web-site.

Anyway, please monitor your incoming emails, let us know if you still get emails regarding this web-site.

Meantime, we are investigating the issue currently, to find out why the actual source of the issue and proper/permanent fix.

Re: X-Monitoring service launched! (New Advanced plan is available)

I have 2 different customers, with 2 different servers, where I installed a fresh copy of x-cart 4.6.0.

Even though I disabled X-Monitoring on both sites, they both keep getting the error notifications as described by the others above.

I also tried updating the e-mail address in the module configuration for one of them. No results - they STILL receive it.

Please fix this bug urgently!
