X-Cart Adapt Template
SORRY, THIS TEMPLATE IS NO LONGER FOR SALE
Try the REBOOT TEMPLATE X-Cart Adapt Template 4.5.2 + xcartmods.co.uk brings you another X-Cart CSS template, providing an excellent start to your next project with a multitude of features built in ! It's is called Adapt, principally because it has a responsive layout, which scales nicely from wide desktop screens, to medium sized tablets, down to small mobile screens (320px minimum). This can eliminate the need for a costly separate mobile version of your store! While it is impossible to test for every single device, we are confident that it performs well under 'most conditions' and certainly improves the shopping experience for people on mobile devices. Try the DEMO (v4.5.3 Gold) or try the Responsinator, or try a basic iPhone simulator The v4.5.4 Gold Plus demo is available HERE Here's a brief overview of features... (not a comprehensive list) ... We have bundled in many of our popular mods at no extra cost to you ! Please note that some features are only available in the Gold version
Compatible with the following X-Cart Editions...
Please Note... THIS TEMPLATE IS AIMED AT DEVELOPERS This template may not be suitable for beginners. As with all templates, to customise further you will need a good grasp of CSS, HTML and Smarty. You should also have a thorough understanding of the X-Cart system and backend. The install procedure requires that you have good knowledge of patching the database and modifying PHP / template files. It's aimed at small-medium sized stores. The mega dropdown category menu many not be suitable if you have a large amount of categories. A horizontal dropdown flyout menu is included as an alternative. The Socialise and Wibya X-Cart modules have been dropped in favour of our own social sharing addon and comments system. There is PHP encoding in place, purely for licensing purposes. No code 'calls home', or relies on a licensing server. A development license option is available, giving you unlimited use of the template. Ideal for web design agencies. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Looks Awesome Phil! :D/ Love the features and how it indeed adapts to the size of the screen. Also really like the mini cart, the search with pictures, the FAQ, the option of multiple downloads and videos and the tab approach to the home page and the icons on the tabs on the products pages. Very Very cool! can't wait to buy it and provide users the ease of navigation and eye candy you have provided!
I noticed that you mention 'no more three column layouts' Why is that? I mainly used that third column for news and more importantly for an easy place to see the 'LIVE CHAT'... where can I put that icon now? As we do have many customers chatting with us live... and want them to easily find that icon.... Also, where do you suggest we put the 'sign-up' for our newsletter (we use constant contact)? Does the Adapt have all the features that your ability template had? Ie.. The tag on the top right hand side (the one that you click on and it says 'free shipping' etc, etc? What features have you removed if any from the Adapt template? Thanks again for creating this awesome template and we can't wait to implement it as soon as you allow us to buy it, download it.. Best Alberto Ps. On the features of FAQ for products, downloads etc, is there the facility of importing these via a file into the MySQl database? We have thousands of items always changing - Used Medical Equipment - and it would not be practical to enter these details one by one on the X-cart Admin... |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Looking nice Phil love how it works with the mobile, some nice features here and nice that it works for keeping site speedy....
|
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Phil well done .... SWEET!!!
Now get back to work ... :') And don't forget to go back and answer the Ability thread, you have far to many questions waiting to be answered! Again, Congrats Adapt looks great and on my iPad and touch iPod it not only looks great but worked great. I did not notice any lag or slowness on any of my devices or on PC or iMac using safari and firefox. Sweet!!! |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
3 words, this is awesome.

Phil, this looks great!

Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
very nice. Now what do I do with my other two templates (Smart & Ability) I've purchased from you...lol Just as I'm trying to get the site setup the way I want I now think I need the Adapt Template. A lot of money spent and still not done. Great work.

Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Thank you all for your feedback. It's taken a while to get Adapt working the way I want and to have a product that's as bug-free as possible from the start.
The recent frequent updates to X-Cart have also slowed down the launch a bit. It was intended to be released around the time of v4.5.0. I'm giving a generous $50 discount off Adapt to everyone who's previously purchased one of our other templates. Hope that helps people out. |

That's cool. You had done something similar when releasing the Ability before. I put my website similar to some of the Sound Quality competitor's vehicles that I build. Every year or after a big competition they bring the car back to me to completely gut and redo with something different. The work never seems to be done. Hopefully with the Adapt template I can get it where I want it so I can start loading products into it. That has been the problem with the site the way it is now. Can't get it to the way I want so I never get anything really loaded into it. I have quite a few mods that were conflicting with the template that I couldn't get figured out. You were really busy so I didn't want to bug you and then manufacturers of the mods didn't want to help me too much because they would say "it's the template". So in the end the website just sits "stuck" until I can find the time to work on it which never seems to come along with two small kids and myself working till 9pm or later every day running the streets installing on-site around the city. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Decided to go with Adapt after having great success with Ability! Man it's fun to start again, can't wait to launch it. :D
Major thing is the responsive part of it, soo many people have ipads and iphones and use there phones for stuff now, just checked my Google analytics and quite a lot of orders have came through phones/ipads. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Thanks Jack :)
On request, I'm adding a new header category menu option to the template - a responsive four level dropdown flyout menu, in case the mega dropdown menu is not suitable for your categories. So I will be sending out revised files to all current purchasers later on today. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
We are also having a look at it.
Very nice indeed, still trying my best to break it, but some good feaures, and is looking great so far :D |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Anyone having issues with the testimonials admin...
In admin/grid/inc/prepare_grid.php After the opening... <?php On the next line, insert... ini_set("display_errors","off"); |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Is anyone able to point me in the direction for modifying the slider image size?
I would like to reduce the height, but cant find where. Thanks :-) |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Quote:
It's a responsive slider, probably best to adjust your slider images heights, then re-upload them, otherwise your images might get distorted... Or... skin/adapt/addons/slider/slider/tpl Add height tags, eg. replace... <a href="{$config.Adapt.adapt_home_s1_link}"><img src="{$http_location}/files/uploads/slider/{$config.Adapt.adapt_home_s1}"></a> With... <a href="{$config.Adapt.adapt_home_s1_link}"><img src="{$http_location}/files/uploads/slider/{$config.Adapt.adapt_home_s1}" height="240"></a> OR, skin/adapt/css/altskin.css Replace... .flexslider .slides img { max-width: 100%; display: block; } With... .flexslider .slides img { max-width: 100%; max-height: 240px; display: block; } |

Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
But is it fast?
|
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Quote:
It is fast, working on a test site at the moment and it's quick and when I get MaxCDN installed it will be lightning fast. But it all depends on what type of server your hosting it on as if your with GoDaddy, HostGator and so on you might as well give up now. View the Demo Phil has, but keep in mind he (as far as I'm aware) doesn't have a good server at all and it performs very well. This was one of the key things he designed adapt for, Responsive, Speed and SEO. Speed is based on a lot of things, how many images, categories and modules you have on at on one page at one time. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Yes, the demo is on a shared server, nothing particularly special and all features are enabled.
Performance depends on the usual factors... - How fast your server is, volume of traffic - Number of template features enabled - Number of X-Cart modules enabled - Number of categories / products - File sizes of your product images etc. Not only that, speed depends on how good your browser is and how fast your computer is. We've used as few images as possible in the layout, to cut down on HTTP requests, the template makes use of the JS/CSS speedup tools. There's plenty of other speed optimisations you can do, like Jack says, using a CDN is one of the best. Enable GZIP compression, optimise your product images, combine images into sprites (we've done that to some extent in Adapt), make use of the 'optimization settings' in general settings etc. etc. Loads of tips here - http://help.x-cart.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:Performance_tips |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Just a heads up, for those exporting their databases from the X-Cart DB backup tool, it is important that you've made this small modification...
In admin/db_backup.php comment out or delete this code... Code:
if (!in_array($_table, $sql_tbl)) It will then export ALL database tables including custom ones. Also, if you have a large database, for importing it's a good idea to use Bigdump |

Hey Phil,
I like the Adapt Template, still testing though. Two questions: 1. How can I make the category's "Expand All" the default setting? 2. I also like you OPC but it has a problem working with Iframe for X-Payments. Thanks |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template

Clear cookies. skin/adapt/custom/categories.tpl At the end, insert... Code:
{if $main eq "catalog" && $cat eq "0"} Quote:
It's not been tested with xpayments. Try... skin/adapt/modules/One_Page_Checkout/opc_summary.tpl After... Code:
<input type="hidden" name="payment_method" id="payment_method" value="{$payment_method|default:$payment_data.payment_method_orig|escape}" /> Insert... Code:
<div class="clearing"></div> Or, you can revert back to the default OPC, by deleting or renaming this directory... skin/adapt/modules/One_Page_Checkout |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Phil, you've not answered my support ticket for 5 days now, so I'll post the question here.
In the home page, the "new" and "random" product lists have quantity boxes which are always displayed even though the stock is 0. When a customer fills in the quantity number and press "add to cart", the page just refreshed itself. I want to make it consistent with the rest of the site which displays "Out of stock" if qty=0. This also applies to the related products list in the product detail page. Also, I'd like the quantity boxes to be pull down menus with only the available quantity in stock as the available option. Can you help? |

{if $product.avail ne "0"} Quote:
I will look into this, it needs custom coding, you'll have to make do with input qty boxes for now. |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
Thanks Phil. The problem with input qty boxes is that if the input qty is larger than the available in stock, the page will refresh itself. Not good when you're low in stock (like 1 item).
Another issue that I have is: in the submit a testimonial page, the image code does not appear. I'm not sure what I've done wrong, but image codes elsewhere on the site are displaying fine. Any idea what may be wrong? |

I've the "Show quantity selector as input textbox" at General Setting::Appearance set to off, so the qty selectors at the "Featured Products" list (and the category product lists) are now pull-down menus with only the available quantity in stock as the available options. Since X-cart already has the code to do this, can't you reuse them for your other list pages? |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
silly question probably but when I go to the Testimonials on the Admin side I get the following message.
"Couldn't execute query. Access denied for user 'apache'@'localhost' (using password: NO) - SELECT * FROM testimonials WHERE 1=1 LIMIT 0" Also it could be due to me being confused with the config for the testimonial_send.php file. I'm not quite sure how I'm actually supposed to input my settings. $mysqlLink = @mysql_connect( "localhost", // <- Database Hostname "username", // <- Database Username "password" // <- Database Password ); if (mysql_errno() == 0) { @mysql_select_db("database", $mysqlLink); } // <- Database Name Am I supposed to replace the "username" and the "password" with mine? Another thing I noticed is when submitting a testimonial the Captcha code isn't displaying but does this have to do with the initial database settings problem. |

Replace the Username with the Database username and same goes with the password. :D |

Like this for example? Because it doesn't seem to be working to edit the testimonials. $mysqlLink = @mysql_connect( "localhost", // <- Database Hostname "KCAuserKCA", // <- Database Username "KCApassKCA" // <- Database Password ); if (mysql_errno() == 0) { @mysql_select_db("KCAdataKCA", $mysqlLink); } // <- Database Name |

I'm silly. Got it figured out. Didn't realize there was another place to put the info into on the admin/adapt_testimonials_grid.php file. All is good and luckily I had Phil's testimonials module installed on the previous site. I simply had to insert my data back into it. |

Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
quick question for Phil or anyone that's got some skills to do it. I would really like the Glossary mod to work with the product options display. For my customers I give the option to have their remote starters to be pre-wired for them. It would be great to have the Glossary bring up a quick tool tip to display what that is instead of them having to hunt around the site for the answer.
|
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
You can use the glossary addon with the product option labels but not with the actual product options I'm afraid, unless you have some custom coding done.
Demo (see engraving) In skin/adapt/modules/Product_Options/customer_options.tpl Replace... Code:
{if $usertype eq "A"} With... Code:
{if $config.Adapt.adapt_addon_glossary eq "Y"}<span class="glossary_highlight">{/if} |
Re: X-Cart Adapt Template
That did the trick
http://www.kcautosound.com/images/forums/glossary.jpg I did however find that now if the product option title has a few words like for example here it should say "Driver's Door Unlock" it doesn't wrap the lettering like it did before. http://www.kcautosound.com/images/forums/nowrap.jpg |

I don't believe I've touched anything from the CSS. In fact the only modification that I've done other than your steps of installing the Adapt template is adding my script for my live chat but I've taken then off the site completely during testing and it hasn't changed the way the option wording is displayed. I have noticed that when the page first starts to load words are fine but then after what ever scripts finishes loading it then "unwraps" the words. As seen HERE I also did some playing around with it. If I only setup the glossary to notice the words Driver's Door then it will allow the words to wrap and does seem to solve the problem. Just becomes and issue if somewhere in a description for something else that it would pick it up like for instance if I was describing the new push-to-start systems that have a replacement Driver's Door handle. |
