Ohhh I hope so and I hope it conforms to the apparel requirements of mandatory size and color attributes for all variations! To me, it's worth upgrading just for that alone. Will there be a database converter so if we want to do a fresh install and just use the converted database, it will be possible? UPDATE: I should have had another cup of coffee... doh! 4.4.2 > 4.4.4 = no database change. Pardon my blondness. Thanks. Ana |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Don't forget the mandatory Google Taxonomy (google_product_category) that will be required starting Sept 22nd.

Yes, and until I get my feed going in accordance with the Apparel & Clothing category regulations, which I hope this update truly handles, I'll be off the map. Haven't been able to get any mod to pull the color and size variants yet, which are actually contained in the class tables. |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
I'm sure you'll be able to find someone capable of doing that. We don't use X-Cart to generate our Google Products feed so I can't really offer any advice (our internal database does it via SQL to XML direct conversion).

Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
I really appreciate the bug fixes in the new versions, but I have always wondered why you wait a week or so after the new version release for the upgrade packet? You would think that an upgrade packet should come first as a thank you to the huge number of folks reporting the bugs and the fact that many of the carts are live using the old version.

Upgrade packs require more testing in order NOT to break live carts being upgraded. |

Thanks, Seyfin. But what I'm reading there appears that I have to manually go in and assign an extra field for the base product for size and color which won't work when the product variations are variants. I need it to use the variant combinations of the base product to create each variation combination of color and size. I added the Extra Fields to cover the gender and age_group requirements. Is this what was accomplished in 4.4.4? Thanks. Ana |

Sergey I am smart enough to know that an upgrade pack takes more time than the basic fresh install. I guess my point is, why doesn't Xcart get the "Bug Fix" out to their customer before they release it to the general public? Many of the bugs were reported by everyday Xcart users. I just think it would be nice if for ONCE in the last six years you would put your existing customers first, rather than the prospective customer. Does лояльность mean the same in English and Russian? |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Comment for Sergey and intended to be shared with the entire QT Team: This thread has been bugging me all day.
I'll bet I speak for a silent majority of XC users that PRAISE and appreciate your work. I cringe when I see those recent sour comments. Why? Because I know what kind of incredible deal X-Cart is. $149 and you get free lifetime updates? And we've gotten four, what I would call major, updates in one year?? That's a deal. Just compare that with the price of Magento and many other leading carts, and you'll see that XC is the best deal by far. I know because I did a huge analysis before committing to XC last year: http://www.shoppingcart-program.com/2010/11/shopping-cart-comparison/ So for that reason, I just get angry when people diss QT about minor crap. Sure, XC has bugs. Every app does. Even massive Microsoft has serial complainers of all their bugs, pricing, delays, etc. Hey, I don't hesitate to lay into QT when the complaints are valid, such as the ridiculous delay in preparing for the USPS API update in Jan 2011, or the outdated froogle feed that was in need of updating until 4.4.4. And I've complained loudly about other bugs. But to wait just a few more days for the upgrade pack? I can do that. I got no problem with QT's attempts to bring in revenue as fast as they can, in light of the deal I'm getting. |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Honestly, after using X-Cart since 2004 and going through the many upgrades, I find it easier to just do a fresh install and redo the modifications, using the existing database (within the same base versions.)
Upgrades have been frustrating and usually unsuccessful. I understand though, that many have so many mods, this may not be the best method. I agree about the waiting a week for the upgrade pack, it's not a long wait. The delay in urgent bug fixes is a problem. Ana |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
I did a clean install of 4.4.4 and restored my old database from 4.4.3. However once the database was restored I noticed that Socialize, and Wibiya modules disappeared from the modules page. Has anyone else who did a clean install of 4.4.4 and restored old 4.4.3 database
had this experience. My thought is that 4.4.4 and 4.4.3 database are not compatible, particular with the good addition of the Socialize, and Wibiya modules. Sergey, will there be a database patch to upgrade 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 in the upgrade patch that's coming for 4.4.3 to 4.4.4? Thanks |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released

I didn't bother to upgrade to 4.4.3 after I saw all the bugs in it. I will be going from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 but I imagine the same issues exist. Usually within branches (like 4.4.X), the database doesn't change if I recall correctly. I also want to know, if there are database changes between 4.4.4 and 4.4.X versions, will there be a database upgrader issued? Ana |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released

You can't do that and expect everything to work. 4.4.4 modifies databse and when you replace it with 4.4.3 database the new modules or changes will not be there of course (they do not exist in 4.4.3). You have to go through the upgrade process (which is not yet available). Expect more things not to work properly as well |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Thanks, Steve, for clarifying the database issue.

There are minor database changes between 4.4.4 and 4.4.0-4.4.3 versions. There are major database changes between 4.4.x and older branches (4.3.x, 4.2.x, 4.1.x, 4.0.x). There are various database upgraders available, for example: * DB upgrader 4.1.12->4.4.0 * DB upgrader 4.2.3->4.4.0 * DB upgrader 4.3.2->4.4.0 See also: * http://help.qtmsoft.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:Upgrade_procedure * http://help.qtmsoft.com/index.php?title=X-Cart:Upgrading Should you have any question about a specific database upgrader, do not hesitate to contact our support team via your personal Helpdesk area. I am bringing up a new 4.4.3-4 store to replace my 4.1.9 store. Is there a way to import my 4.1.9 dbase into the 4.4.3 store using the upgrader's? Thanks Bob |
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Yes but the upgrade pack for 4.4.4 is not out yet. You can upgrade to 4.4.3 though. It's a multiple step upgrade - 4.1.9-4.1.12-4.4.0-4.4.3
|
Re: X-Cart v4.4.4 released
Thanks Steve,
I am wondering how to proceed since I am not upgrading the 4.1.9 store. Can you give me a little guidance on how to snag the 4.1.9 database and begin the conversion to 4.4.3. When I looked at this, it seems to want to upgrade my dbase in place which would be a disaster for my current 4.1.9 store. Admittedly, messing with dbases spook me. Thanks for any insight. |
